Thanks for the positive words, I have been really close to trashing this truck several times, sometimes I just can't work on it....I have the time its just I am so sick of it I can't, thats when I walk away from it for a while, as far as the repair of rust...its not that hard to do, just one section at a time and you will be ok be paitent and ready to walk away should things not go right, then when you come back you won't be frustrated and will find the correct solution

Got a pile of used parts from the junkyard today, 2 good hood hinges I needed because one of mine is tweaked, got the heater control lever that I needed, a 60 Apache windshield trim and a 64-66 windshield trim that I am not going to use, if anyone is looking for them let me know, and a heater assy, I modified my factory one for the wrong core 20 year back and this is the deluxe heater with the Harrison core, got it all bead blasted inside and out new seals and painted it up and re assembled it with stainless screws, I made progress with the heater control cables, went to Home Depot and got a universal lawnmower throttle and made some new cables, this style cable works like butter with a teflon cable sheath, I just measured them and cut the outer to size, then took a drill bit the size of the ring on the end clamped it in the vise and heated the cable and wrapped it around like the factory did and then trimmed the excess and its done...took me a few trys to get the process right but they work awesome !! better that the replacments I bought years ago

oh I also upgraded the heater motor to a later style unit from a 80s C10, had to make a spacer for the motor but it spins 2x faster that the old 62 motor !! and the thing bolted right in the factory holes

Beautiful job on the heater. The motor looks just like the one I used on mine, although mine came out of a Fiero.

The heater came out well, the new motor has a drain or somthing on the side, saw a few with plugs in the hole, did yours have the hose or plug? and was the stock resistor good enough to use with the new motor? After all the work blasting and painting the heater and all parts inside and out, I really like the look of it without it, both inside and outside the truck, I am thinking of the economy heater now , oh well at least it will look nice in my office! |

Post #3 on the following thread shows the Fiero motor in mine. I left the tube on there and just pointed it downward. I don't know where it connected in the original installation, I assumed it acts as a vent so thought it might be better to leave it open.
I'm using a Camaro resistor just because it cost half as much. It is identical to the stock truck resistor other than it is attached by screws instead of snapping place. If I had it to do over I would have spent the additional couple of bucks for the convenience of snapping a stock version in place. In any event it works perfectly with either the original motor or the new permanent magnet type. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ghlight=heater I also prefer the econo heater. When I had a deluxe heater the cab always smelled like antifreeze, in spite of a complete heater rebuild with all new seals, core, and no leakage. Here are some pics of the interior paintwork I did a few days ago, its a close to stockk color but is from a 99-06 Ford F series truck, its a pain in the ass to paint upside down, turned out ok....a few runs I fixed..I may re shoot it at a later date
Got the fresh air vents all cleaned and painted, bead blasted them and hit them with epoxy primer and a spray bomb black doors are getting changed out at a later date so they will be painted at a later date, rear glass is going to be changed when I paint the exterior so for now I just cut part of the rubber away so the new rubber will cover the edge of the new paint Last edited by Bugeyev8; 11-18-2010 at 06:33 PM. |

pics of interior during work, I stripped the entire cab roof to bare metal because of surface rust and then shot with 2 coats of epoxy and then the paint, my neck hurt for a week after all that sanding

old pics of the truck when it was left to me when grandpa died, wish I had the vintage Holiday camper still, it was rotted beyond my skills at the time, the old Chevy went right to work towing Fords to the scrap yard, this was the 1st of 5 early Fords I scrapped that day, still has the 6 lug front and rear drum brakes , manual steering ,283 and 3 speed, stock single exhaust in this pic

Are you aware that that heater is a '64-'66 deluxe heater and not the '60-'63 deluxe heater? I don't think it will bolt up on a '60-'63 cab. I could be wrong though since I haven't tried to do so. Keep up the excellent work.....you're providing inspiration for many of us.

I did not even think about that, well...it will not fit and I am missing a few parts for the 62 box....back to the wreckers I guess or I will runwithout a heater till another comes up, I wish I had tested fittment before spending 8 hrs cleaning this one up , oh well we learn as we go

well its says black on the can but...looks like charcoal to me, my under dash parts were kinda grey from the factory and the heater was black, I don't really care so much about the color anything is better than rusted peeling paint

I hope so, It was showing no sign of leaking and I pulled vac on it and it held, I don't really like the heater valve but it seems to work ok

Got the Captain Fab brake booster bracket ready to install, very nice bracket and great service, I cut the booster rod and made a coupler to go between the stock pedal rod and the new booster rod, held together with 2 1/4 20 set screws, I was going to weld it but I did not feel safe welding on stuff like this and if the booster was to ever need replacing...I would have to do this again, my way the booster can be removed and replaced easy, I did have to drill the 2 drivers side outboard holes out a bit on the bracket because no matter what I tried the bolts were way off, I have a feeling these trucks are all made a little different, but everything else fit great !!

well if you wanted that 59 you would die if you saw the other 3, I junked that day, the 59 pictured was ainline 6 rebuilt and needed a transmission, the other 59 needed an overhaul from sitting but we ran the 312 engine, the real one I regret scrapping was the factory 58 4 wheel drive, I was going to build one v8 powered 4wd from the 4 of them, but lost the space I had to work on them and just towed them away to the scrappers, that was in 1993, the white truck was still in the wreckers I took it to as of a year ago
