Re: New Years purchase
I was wondering what the seats were. Very clean floors. Yes the doors have popers on them controled by the key remote.

Re: New Years purchase
A few steps backwards and a few forward.
First the backward Engine has major damage to the pistons, all eight have the ring landings shattered. Debris down the cylinders scored the cylinder walls. Total tear down and back to the machine shop. Machinist told me it was caused by old gas which caused predetonation which caused extreme cylinder pressure that busted the pistons. All in only 8 miles on the engine. Now the forward. Got the new carpet and installed it. I like the loop style. Found another center console and installed it and the CD changer under it. Removed the dash cluster and installing the Auto meter gauges into it. Removed the gauge trim rings and glass and using the original lens to mount to. Pulled the rearend cover and checked the lash and backlash. Good setting, and found it has 4.11 ratio. |

Re: New Years purchase
I enjoy working on these trucks--but-- yes it will hurt. About a $1,000 dollar hurt. Bad thing is that I knew better. The Jimmy sat for around a year and the gas smelled really bad, but I drove it 4 miles to the gas station and back.

Re: New Years purchase
That really sucks to hear about your engine. I have never heard of that. The carpet really looks great in there!

Re: New Years purchase
Thanks,
I hope to have the engine back wednesday. I will assemble it AGAIN and hope to have it in and running this weekend. The bad (old) gas is more volitile and can ignite and explode while in the compression stroke. That exploding gas puts pressure down on the piston while it's still comming up. Then it fires again when it gets to the top when it should. All this creates tremendous heat and pressure in the cylinder. Thats when the ring landings cant hold the ring, and it breaks. NOW you have more heat and pressure going down the side of the piston, heating the side of the piston and getting in the crankcase. Now you also have pressure in the crankcase hammering up on the ring landings also. Every thing goes to s#!t. |

Re: New Years purchase
Got all my machine work done. Decked the block and bored to .040 over. Turned the crank .010 under. Surfaced the heads.
This time I installed new pistons and rings. New bearings through out. True roller chain and roller cam with roller lifters. New harmonic balancer because the old one had a wobble. More important is that I replaced the old gas. |

Re: New Years purchase
Back together and running. Set the timing at 14 Before TDC and 34 total advance. Runs real smooth and has lots of torque. I put 40 miles on it today in the sun.

Re: New Years purchase
Thanks,
I'm now going to install the Auto Meter gauges into my cluster by attaching them to the back of the original lens. Clean up the wires behind the dash. Need to center the steering, It turns sharp one way but not the other. |

Re: New Years purchase
Time to move on to the next project. Hate to see it go. This thing has amazing power on the highway. When you want to pass, It gets it done in a hurry. If I was to keep it I think I would install a 750 dbl pumper, roller rockers and a set of headers. From what I read that would put me close to 425 HP and torque would be way up there. But it all ends here for me on this one.
It's Ebay sale ends at noon pacific time tomorrow. Wish me luck. DENNIS |
