Got ran off in the swamp passing two cars at once. Just put a new gm transmission in it a month before. Bought it back for $750. Took it too a few mud runs, had alot of fun. Been parting it out for a couple years. I loved this tahoe. REALLY nice truck.. OH well. Had $5400 in it. Insurance gave me 10.5k. and i bought it back.. I did ok.....

Re: Wrecked your truck? post pics

Ill look for the pictures of this but i dont know where i put them, but here is the story. So My dad had a 76 k10, he'd just got a loan and put a 454, 12 inch lift and other things on it. they finished the truck on a friday night and decided to take it up to go night skiing. not registered, no insurance they took off. Well to do this you have to go through a small canyon. they went up and skiied and on the way home it started snowing heavily. as they came around a corner a buddy sitting in the middle kicked it into 2wd..... and they slid into oncoming traffic.. they headoned a small car. They pinned the lady in the car, since the truck had a body lift the bolts sheared and the whole cab went onto the freezing river next to the road, somehow in the wreck it bent the crank on the 454 and pushed a rod out the side of the block, frame bend, not one good body panel.remeber it was not insured at the time. luckily these were the days where no body sued. they lady was fine just bruised and cut up. he ended up paying all the medical bills, for her car and paying off the loan for the motor he no longer had.... ya he drove a nissan for awhile after that.

Re: Wrecked your truck? post pics

This is mine when I bought her in 1984, minus the tires, wheels and motor. Guy wanted the tires and wheels and just let me borrow them to tow her home. My passenger door still doesn't close just right, but WTH.
Sorry for the bad picture, I had to scan the original Polaroid.

Re: Wrecked your truck? post pics

I can't begin to tell you how lucky my kid was when he fell asleep driving my 04 Silverado home one night. He crossed the double yellow and went off the road into sand, what happened next I think was "playStation" driving, a lot of wheel and maybe some gas. No sign of braking. Not sure how much spinning, could not figure out the marks in the road. He eventually would up back in the sand and rolled it over and back on to its wheels. He had two full six gallon gas tanks and other equipment in the back. Getting that call at 2am was the most frightening experience of my life. I got to the accident before the cops or ambulance and the kid had already gotten everything put back in the truck, including the bedliner. Not a scratch, left for college the next day.

oh yeah, I drove it home but they totaled it anyway. that's why I'm driving that 84 now.

ks stamp.... wow what were the injuries on you?? i think of it this way, sending your wrecked truck to the junk yard is like giving someone a kidney and then spreading the ashes... You'll help out others who need help and your truck parts will be spread all over and help out the other trucks R.I.P.

there was VERY little salvagable on the truck. they had to blow torch the frame to get the engine/trans out for us. amazingly the engine/tranny is now fully rebuilt and in my dad's 1987 Olds 442 (350/700R4). the bellhousing was cracked thats all, IT WAS STILL RUNNING AFTER HIT. even the keys got knocked out of the ignition an were never found. the driver door was never found either. i will find more pictures soon if y'all would like to see them.

but as far as injuries i had both lungs collapse and cracked ribs from hitting the steering wheel, moderate heart bruising, and it shattered my pelvic bone. 44 days in TRAUMA ICU (33 spent in a coma). 3% survival projection, actually told my parents that mother's day 2007 would be my last. but i started improving drastically from that day forward. still to this day they say i shoulda never lived, much less not be a vegetable, and damn sure shouldnt be able to walk. but im a perfectly normal 20 y.o now, just with the aches an pains of a 80 y/o haha but hey im not complaining. BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF GOD. thanks for taking interest in my story.

Re: Wrecked your truck? post pics

This was my wife's 1987..We had just installed a pretty mean 383 stroker 2 weeks before this.

She was in the turn lane waiting to turn left and some 19yo in a brand new dodge 1/2ton decided that the turn lane was best used for passing slower cars. They hit pretty much corner to corner. The dodge was towed from the scene, They asked me about towing her truck and I told them I'd do it my self and got out a tow strap hooked it to my Suburban......Drug it off the street and over the curb into the dirt. I was thinking to myself "Why is her truck so heavy?" Well I asked her and she said the truck was still in park!!!!..It left 3 skid marks on the road and over the curb!.....I was proud of my Suburban that day ...What a tank!

So I replaced the front tire and had to remove the fan shroud and we drove it home. Sadly we found the frame was badly damaged with a bunch of broken rivets and bent cross-members....We pulled the 383 and parted out the truck.

Re: Wrecked your truck? post pics

Looks fine besides the busted light, right? The dent was already there.

I swiped a tree, which twisted the frame rails, making the entire front axle move over almost two inches. The top of the passenger side of the frame actually broke off the metal head shield on the exhaust manifold [but I guess I deleted the pic]

Funny thing is, it drove straight, handled normally, rode normally... all that was affected was I could turn REAL sharp going left and had the turning radius of an 18-wheeler going right.

Then, 15,000 miles later, I was offroading and a tree saved it from rolling onto its side...
