Here's a few of my old truck, starting with me in the back of it on Galveston Island, around 1978 or so:

Last pic I could find of it as my daily driver, around 1999 or so:

what it looks like now:

I sure hope they're not driving them out on the public roads everyday. Mine won't pass the state safety inspection because the underside of the cab is too rusted out around the cab mounts and seat belt anchor points. So I just use it as a yard truck.

I haul firewood with it too, but have to put a piece of plywood in the bed to keep the wood from falling through the rust holes in the floor. The first pic I posted doesn't really show the true extent of the rust either ... the former owner's bondo job and my Rustoleum paint job is hiding a lot.

Some are bad, but some I would be proud to own in Ontario the (salt) rust belt. It is a constant battle to keep them from rusting.

Re: rustiest trucks

Roadsalt is such a horrible thing to an automotive enthusiast. Very grateful we don't use it here. Well we do, but it is only 4 to 6% salt in the sand mixture depending on the storm. Not enough to cause crazy rot.

Re: rustiest trucks

east ky has the salt issue plus all the junk that comes off of the coal trucks. the mud/coal slurry plus salt eats them super fast. my 04s rockers are rusting even. if car companies would epoxy prime the bodies and undercoat them with a bedliner material like most ppl do when restoring the trucks/cars wouldnt rot like they do. my 12 sorento i noticed is undercoated with a bedliner type material guess thats why i never seen a 04 kia rust out anywheres.

Re: rustiest trucks

None are Chevys, but I have a few:
'72 IH 1210 - paid $150 for it, and drove it onto the trailer. The A727 needed rebuilt and the rust was pretty severe - hood, front fenders, floorboards, and the bed sides were only really attached at the front panel. I turned it around for $350, and I'm sure it's been crushed by now. Cool old truck if it hadn't been so far gone.

Notice that the hood hinge is completely detached from the inner fender:

My '62 Willys DJ3A - front floor boards are toast and a lot of other areas are weak, but it's still pretty straight because most of the rust happened while it was just sitting for 15+ years.

My '75 CJ5. It was solid enough to use around the farm, but pretty much every body panel was rusty. Had more fun in this thing than any other car so far!

International's were built of pre-rusted sheet metal. Those things would rust in the driest of deserts

Oh, yeah! I lived in Detroit for 6 years and spent a lot of time driving back and forth between there and Union City, IN right on the OH border. I used a new truck as a winter beater back then. The old trucks stayed in the garage and under the car port

Re: rustiest trucks

I lived in Michigan from 1997-2001. By the time I moved back to CO in 2001 my new at the time ’98 Z71 had rust bubbles under the hood lip and starting at the bottom of the doors. Every piece of aluminum under the hood was white and pitted. I was even anal about keeping it clean. Traded that truck off a few months after we left the saltbelt for a new 2001 2500HD which I still have and 13 years later, it doesn't have a spec of rust. It’s no wonder all the old iron is all but gone or in unsaveable shape out there. Salt is bad news!

I'd post pictures of my rust buckets but I live in AZ, so no rust.
