I don't leave anything valuable in mine other than an old Alpine deck, amp and sub. And I don't have any kind of an anti-theft device, never will. If they want it, take it. At least they will be able to do so with little to no damage. If I get it back, fine. If not, that's why I pay for insurance.

Ask Dennis (menace 121978) about vehicle alarms and vehicle damage going hand-in-hand, and the thief not getting the vehicle after all.

Small claims court and a civil lawsuit against him and his company will get your car fixed free of charge to you. They will end up paying all court costs too. You might even get punitive damages out of them too if they have a history of doing this.

He is no different than a vandal keying your car if he was too stupid to even check the license plate number let alone the VIN against his repo list. He is not above the law, he is in violation of the law.

Just throwing this out there, to at least make it harder to tow your truck, when you park turn your wheel all the way to the left or right if you have a steering lock and set the emergency brake, granted this won't work for a flat bed tow truck.

So anyways, i'm really wanting to start driving the truck as my daily driver coupled with the fact that my regular daily driver desperately needs some R+R.

So one of the things i'm thinking of doing is getting something like this harley-davidson cable or a marine cable:

Now, i know that the club is not all that great and can be defeated rather easily but i'm thinking that if i wrap a chain (one of the above maybe) around the steering wheel multiple times, they would have to cut the steering wheel many times thus creating a bigger deterant than the club alone and possibly steering (no pun intended)them away to another target:

i'm also thinking of putting some sort of lock in the steering u-joint underhood.

But the main reason why i want a chain/cable is to actually chain the truck to lightposts, parking meters, trees---anything imovable.

Your thoughts on any of this?

P.S. At first i didn't think the lady fit in as a 73-87 person, but then considering this is a 75 brouchure, yes, i think she fits sales wise. But those shoes------yuk.

I found out my friend bolted a device that locks the gas and brake pedal until you press the button under the seat. He made it himself at our high school.

One guy i knew made a kill switch. He had a 75 or 76 truck and swapped to the newer column that had the wiper switch on the turn signals... he kept the old dash switch and used it as the kill switch. the truck didnt run unless the old wiper switch was on hi.

We know that the club/steering wheel-to-brake locks aren't nessesarily that good, but what about steering column locks such as the one above?

I had a pretty bad ass remote alarm set up on my 91 K5.

The guy that installed it, hooked up the ignition through the cruise control lever. In order to start the truck, the cruise control had to be in the "on" position.

If the steering column was broken, and the cruise control was "off", it still wouldn't start.

I've had this steering column lock on every GM that I have owned and it works pretty good it has a sleeve that's permanent once installed around the steering column to keep someone from peeling the column and when done for the day has another part that locks to the sleeve with a hardened lock and it covers the lock cylinder and goes through the steering wheel to keep it from being turned. May not be full proof but it'll take someone a long time and plenty noisy tools to get off!

I see a lot of good ideas, but can someone explain how a thief can defeat the ignition disable feature on the aftermarket anti-theft systems? Without the remote (or knowing where the override button is) a thief won't be able to start the vehicle - it will just sound like a dead battery. Seems like the least obtrusive and simplest solution to me. Of course, a flatbed will overcome anything - but all of the car thefts in my neighborhood are smash and grab type.

The application guide says oldest truck fitment is 1978 1500.

I have 1977 C10.

Anybody know if steering columns are the same between a 1977 and 1978?

Because all a thief has to do is run a hot lead from the battery to the ignition coil to bypass the ignition wire coming from the key, thats the only thing I can think of, but thats only if they figure it out.

That unit along with a full feature security system, The Club, brake pedal to steering wheel lock, and the front wheels cut all the way to one side.

This won't completely eliminate the chance of theft but maybe they will move on to another vehicle.

I used a fence charger many years ago to stop the neighbors dogs from urinating on my wheels. They were doing it almost daily before being zapped.

Having too many other cars around it to get it stolen has always been my friends way of not getting his modded to the nines trans am from getting stolen, and he lives in a place where crack dealers run from the cops through his front and back yards. We finally know it's crack because he found a scale and a baggy full of it in his front yard.
