I hope that's not what the owner says nicke finally gets a hold of him. He's probably been asked a hundred times if he wants to sell it.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

Thanks. I just wanted to be sure I didn't pass one up at the junkyard. The one I saw was much more bulky, probably aftermarket.

Look's like I was wrong about the base of the armrest's being cream. Mine must be faded white according to the pictures. If the Cool Pack was grey it came from a 60-61 if I'm correct. Mines Beige.

1963 Silver Book mentions a Mark IV A/C available from the dealer on bigger trucks.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

I accidentally traded away one of those seats...
at least I got a good 60-61 hood for it, but now I will be on the lookout for another!!
when we pulled it out I noticed that the springs were closer to the bottom than most of the others I have seen, and had been wondering why....
the seat I traded was a 64.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

Well I just got back from talking to the wife of the owner. When I asked about his plans, she seemed unsure, but when I asked if she know weather or not her was willing to sell, she said "yea...probably." The impression she gave was that it was just taking up space and not a project by any means...
She took down my name and number and will call when he gets home tonight.....

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

Of course, I had one go the othe other way on me....a guy was offering me a pos that he had pulled a motor out of, basically just scrap, about the only thing good was the new wheel cylinders!
He said "oh I don't know probably a hundred or so...", then his wife stepped in and said " he wants 300 for it."
needless to say... he still has it

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

Well I just got back from talking to the guy....The truck was a farm truck for most of its life. The guy has had it for ten years. It has the 6 cyl engine in it. He fired it up for me and it seemed to run well even though it hasn't been started for months! The odometer reads 30,xxx but the guy says it only has 130,xxx original miles as it spend most of its life in the small farm town.

The bad news is it has quite a bit more rust that I had hoped. It is mostly along the roofline inside the cab above the driver door and above the rear-view mirror.

He thinks its the original six, and has no reason to believe it isn't.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

the deeal with the rust, these old farm trucks get left in fields and barns, mice crawl up in the pillars and the roof and they make nests, thier urine rots out the inside of the roof.
I have seen quite a few nice trucks that need a new roof because of this.
there are quite a few available good roofs over here and we are not too far away from you, if you need help sourcing one let me know.
(check out the stopped by the local yard today thread I posted)

I was wrong, the paint code is RPO 521 B (or 8)

I know 521 is white, but the owner said he thinks the original color was the brown that is showing through.... can anyone clarify based on this number...

Also, anyone know about the trim code of: RPO Z62 PN (or possibly RN)

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

Too bad it has the roof rot, but I wouldn't pass it by because of it. That can be repaired. Although I might try and work that to your advantage with the owner, if you think he is asking too much for the truck. That truck is just too nice to not get.

Decisions...Decisions...

We talked price a bit, but it is tough for me to estimate the cost of a roof repair/replace. I do agree though, that the rest of the truck is very solid.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

If you have to pay someone to replace/fix it, that can get expensive, depending on who you have do it.. If you can do it yourself, it's just the cost of the metal and some misc materials. Is the outer skin rusted through also, or just the inside? The windshield will need to come out, but it looks like it's cracked anyway.

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

It is just the inner skin. Thats why it's so weird to me. The exterior has almost zero rust damage, and for a truck that spent most of its life outside, I would have thought the rust would be outside, not inside...

gaurantee you it is mice, check the chop portion of my 60 build thread , I had the same rust , and a nice shot of the nest when I cut the roof skin off... I thought I could use the skin too, and it turned out to have pin holes where the nest was.

depending on your skills replacing the roof should be pretty easy, I would think about converting to bbw when you do it-would be less body work to do where flat part of the sbw is...

Re: Abandoned truck.....help me identify!

A lot of roof rot is started by a leaky windshield gasket. Having mice packing it full never helps.

Engine should be a 230, if it is original. You can get the casting number and date code off the block, but there's a lot of grease to scrape. Casting numbers are listed at inliners.org.
