Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

I have one thats gold. It's a solid steel strap that tightens with a double "pivot" and has a "side pivot" to the red rubber coated handle. works first try everytime.
Will try to get a pic from my phone for ya. It is different from everyones excellent pics/options.
Got it

Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

I stabbed one with a screw driver once. Still wouldn't come undone. Ended up driving very quickly to the corner service station to get them to deal with it, leaking oil the whole way.

Big red handled Bluepoints off the SnapOn truck that I have had forever but that is normally what I use. I had one of those strap wrenches years ago and it worked pretty well but I think I left it at the last shop I worked in because it was too nasty with old oil to put in my tool box when I left.

Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

Thanks for taking the time to post the pics, even showing it in action. If nothing else, I'm going to make me one of those.

The principle behind it is very similar to the idea I had laying in the driveway that night.

Thanks again!

Got this badboy at Princess Auto 2 years ago & love it. It's a knock off visegrip but for oil filters. So far it's undefeated...

Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

I have one that no one has posted yet. My father had it for who knows how long but I am not sure of the brand and you dont see them any where around here at least. The wrench has a hole for a 3/8 extension and ratchet. It is a strap type but works similar to a set of ring compressors. As you turn the ratchet the strap tightens and conforms to the filter (is limited to how small it can go) and off it comes. Works great in tight spaces as you turn the ratchet handle you can release pressure and slide the flter wrench around and get another grab- great for tight fitting headers. I have used the others but this is the fail proof.

Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

when i can't remove it by "hand" i go straight to the bfs.
"big fuc$%n screwdriver" no if's and's or buts and no wasting time. LOL
I wouldn't waste my time with fancy removal tools.
I do it by hand or by screwdriver.

Re: What Is The Best Oil Filter Wrench?

All of our car/truck filters come off by hand, as I install them by hand.

We do however, have about every wrench under the sun, for tractors and other stuff. I like the 3 prong one that was posted. I use K&N filters every once in a while, but half the time they come off by hand, and if they don't, the wrench usually slips off anyways, lol.

I know what you mean....................last resort filter method! I can remember once shredding an entire filter up until I got to the screw on threads to remove what was left!
