Re: Just bought 55' Chevy 1st Series...barn find

My dad and I just picked up a 55 1st series 5 window1/2 ton yesterday. It is not in nearly as good of shape as yours. It does have a title and original engine. It need a driver side floor and cab corners, as well as all glass except corners. It is a 3 speed. Yours has the optional 4 speed, even better. We will be putting it ours an 85 S10 LWB 2wd chassis with a 1994 Caprice LT1 and 4L60E.

It is a nice addition to our 55 2nd series big window. Unfortunately, it has been about 1/4 done for the past 20 years.

Sounds like that is going to be a nice setup!

Wow! Nice score! On another note, all the talk about emblems, my 54' with enclosed driveline has 55' 1st series emblems. Go figure....

Re: Just bought 55' Chevy 1st Series...barn find

I would remove those front turn signals, paint the wheels white or cream, maybe get some new bumpers, add some safety stuff ( better brakes, seat belts) and then drive it and polish it. That thing is just too nice to modify. Having said that, you bought it, you own it, do it your way!!

Nice truck!
Next pics I want to see is it going down the road.
My opinion, drive it like it is until YOU decide what you want.
Leave the paint and white wheels, loose the front fender signals lights, put the spare back on the side.
I like the upgraded drive train and suspension.
I say that but the truck looks GREAT!

Did you post up pictures of the Fleetline anywhere?

Not yet... here is a teaser though... Body looks like hell in the pics, but is actually really nice and straight, protected from rust by about 4 different layers of paint ;-) Something about the body lines on this car just does it for me.

x2

I'm not sure what year the change was made, but I prefer the earlier front sheet metal to the later (post 48?)

You have two very good starting points for projects!!!
