Re: Has Anyone used xenon HID headlights in your C-10?

This site has some cool stuff if you have some cash burning a hole in your pocket. http://www.xesighting.com/products.html

I'm currently deployed to the Middle East and I keep seeing these on the vehicles here. I believe they are LED's and they look about 7 inches.

that HID from Ring Brothers looks like the Harley-Davidson HID upgrade....
http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

... And if you think that looks good, check out the LED version now available from HD... you need to see the video from the website...

Wow...those LED's from HD are pretty clean looking. I don't know if I trust that video, but I'm sure there's still plenty of additional light produced by them.

Sooo...I managed to finally get around to installing the "classic" projector headlights and 6000K HID's in my '69 C/10 this past long weekend. Here are some pics I took of them:

I didn't think I'd like them, but they look pretty darn cool! Good job.

Got a full front shot with them off as well as a shot of a "driver's view" with them on?

I saved this from a thread by member JJorgensen52. I condensed it to save it.

Quote:
Jeep JK Wrangler headlights ('07-current) are a direct bolt in swap for the old sealed beam headlights in our trucks. Requires changing from the H4 style connector to a H13 style connector (late model fords, jeep, etc). This whole swap (using junkyard parts) cost me about $100, including silverstar bulbs.
Other than soldering the new connectors in place, it's just like changing a lightbulb. The Jeep lights even have the same lugs cast into the housing as sealed beams so you can't install them wrong side up. My wiring (because it's a plow light harness) looks different than the factory stuff, also.
On the factory bulb, when you pull the connector off the back and look at the socket, you'll see three slots, two vertical on each side and one horizontal on top. The driver's side vertical is ground, the top is low beam and the passenger's side vertical is high beam.
On the new connectors, black is ground, red is low and green is high. (I always test just by sticking the stripped wires into the old connector first, to be sure)
Here is the link to the original thread:

Thanks Clasic69! It looks great and not over the top at all. When you take the full front shots can you take a few with just the halo on. How bright is the halo in the day time?

Re: Has Anyone used xenon HID headlights in your C-10?

Here's some pics I took of the projectors/6000K HID's I installed in my car. They are pretty much the same as the ones I just recently installed in my '69 chevy. Unfortunately, I cant take any pics of my truck on the road for another couple of months cuz its winter here in Alberta and my '69 doesnt see snow! lol...it stays parked in my garage...but this will give you an idea of what they look like for the brightness/beam cutoffs

That is what I did. I used the Silverstar H13 bulbs and good porcelain sockets and headlight relays...talk about a portable stadium!

Re: Has Anyone used xenon HID headlights in your C-10?

I'd go with the Jeep JK lights over most of the aftermarket ones. I've had two sets of aftermarket lights that I wasn't happy with due to the poor quality of the reflectors and light patterns not going where you want it to. It might cost a bit more but you will have lights that really do work and can be readily replaced if one gets broken.

Re: Has Anyone used xenon HID headlights in your C-10?

Yep, Real HID has burner's instead of "bulb's" . They have external ballasts that have to be mounted. I have XSighting Lighting Xe7R headlamps on my '72. They have a light shield mounted on a solenoid that shifts forward to unshield the part of the reflector that is High beam pattern.
They aren't cheap and they took some work to fit in my stock buckets, but I love'em.

FYI, I had to run a relay system due to the amperage requirements from the ballasts for initial light up.

Why do I know so much? I was the lead designer on them along with the same system in the '08 Mustang HID system.

I don't have any pictures handy, but you can look here: www.xsighting.com

By the way, the high output H4's are fine (They aren't HID), but they don't last as long as a good halogen. You brighten a halogen bulb by thinning down the coil. The thinner the coil, the less life you get. The "blue" bulb's have even less life. the coatings hold heat in the bulb and make them burn out quicker.

The "drop in" real HID bulb/ballasts are highly illegal due to people putting them in headlamp assemblies design for halogen bulbs. They glare like crazy and just manage to tick off on-coming drivers and cops.

Re: Has Anyone used xenon HID headlights in your C-10?

Here is a picture of a Cibie and a typical OEM light side by side in my '69.
I ordered brighter bulbs for the cibie's. The biggest difference will be more light down the road and more light on the peripheries. this pic was before they were aimed.
