Absolutely love this truck. Planning to keep the 250? For some reason I really like the 250/292.

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

You're doing exactly what I didn't.

I actually started the same way but then the wife said something that made me tear it apart.

"If you're going to keep it, build it the way you want it and dot it all the first time."

That said, its getting redone completely and I've driven it 100 total since I bought it.

Thanks for the compliment

Yep - The 250 is running super strong and has yet to let me down so I have no plans of taking her out of action....actually have made some improvements (you'll see the updates) and have additional plans to make the 250 more enjoyable as well so I can keep it in service

Haha nothing wrong with that...I didn't even drive mine that much when I bought it to when i took it out of commission. You'll get yours there and from the looks of it should be a nice truck

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

So..........

With the front and rear suspension sorted out, put back together and 5 lug swap completed on all four corners I was without wheels and the truck was floating on jack-stands.

This is the way most builders suggest doing it and I have to agree - build your suspension and everything first before you order the wheels. Things change and it is much better to have the actual measurements of your truck(vehicle) and what you are working with in your specific situation before spending $$ on wheels

So resist that urge to buy wheels first and save them for last, it will definitely increase your potential for success

With all that said I went thru my own trials and tribulations with measuring for wheels and the conversation and results can be seen in this thread along with some great input from some knowledgeable guys on measuring for wheels

Final wheel and tire specs are at the end: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=482381

also here is a thread with some more good information for starting #'s for wheel specs: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...&postcount=810

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

So once the measurements were all sorted out it was time to chose the wheels

My original plan was to use Coy's with the matte finish like member Raul has on his truck

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

But due to my needs from the measurements I needed to go with a custom backspace wheel

So with the look of my truck and personal taste I decided to go with American Racing Salt Flats

I was only able to find one other C10 with them to give an idea of how they looked on our trucks : http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...423629&page=11

But I have always liked them in the larger diameters on other vehicles

And Ridetech's C10 has a close looking wheel with the Centerlines for an idea as well

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

To order the wheels I worked with a forum vendor Pro Performance : http://www.azproperformance.com/home.php

And I can't say enough how much additional help Travis was able to provide me : http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=563762

He answered and confirmed a bunch of my measurement and thoughts, worked with me on tire sizing, gave me an idea of what my truck would look like with various wheel choices , all before I even ordered the wheels from him

Re: Overbuilding - Looking for advice on how not to

Just went back and saw they were already on! haha, not sure how I missed that. Are you having to do anything to make the rear wheel ceter in the wheelwell more?

Nothing special other than I have an adjustable panhard bar so I could center it as best possbile (i'm about 1/4" off perfect center) and I measured my wheels to where I have around 1/2" on each side of the tire in the wheelwells without needing to roll the rear fender lips

Im sorry, I meant centering it front to back. It looks to be way forward in this pic, unless its just the angle/illusion?

Ah haha - Well it's a little bit of both - optical illusion as well as the bed is not bolted down or aligned on the truck at that point in the picture it was just resting on the frame to see side to side clearance

But i feel the truck was alittle off on that side body wise from the get go if you look at post #13 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...6&postcount=13

Suspension wise everything lined up, but adjustable trailing arms would be the only way to align that if you had an issue (other than using washers as spacers on the trailing arm mounts) http://www.porterbuiltfabrication.com/?p=317

Thanks, I do indeed - just have dropped the ball on updating the thread so I need to get back on it.

And wanted to let you know your truck was one of the first build threads I book marked on the forum (I also have a 56 awaiting teardown) and you did a great job with yours

Good looking truck man, I like the dark metallic gray paint / powder contrast with the black frame. Looks really clean.
