Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
Thanks for the tips Mikey. I was thinking about ordering a set of these Juliano's anchor plates to reinforce the new driver side holes, just to be on the safe side. The passenger side will get washers

Has anyone put a bench seat from a 1960-66 Chevy? I've found one for cheap for my 1969, but want to see if it would work.

Just wanted to post mine....
2004 GMC Kodiak/Topkick (REAR) bench seat, chopped the brackets ~3", welded to factory bench rails. I'll get it re-upholstered.... Whenever I do the interior. The top is EXACTLY where I wanted it.

Nice pics Patina'd_402, wish I had seen them before I started my install. I didn't realize the B&M light truck shifter was so large! I did manage to make it fit, I've got to have my cup holders! Here are some pics of my install.

Picked my truck up this morning. New belts in and ready to rock. Drove to work and they head and leg room are awesome.

I'm going with Buddies...well actually it was my wifes call. I votes for the bench. They'll be restored by then. She wanted buckets and a console but I told her we would have to by a different truck if I was going to drill holes in the floor.

That's my factory 71' bench seat. They formed the foam by hand.

Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
@nos81z28, The seat install was a lot easier than I thought, I was a little afraid of it since my fabrication abilities are almost non-existent. The process was pretty simple and went smoothly, I just sat the seats in the truck to see where I wanted them (warning, if you center the 05 seats in the cab the driver seat will be slightly off center to the steering wheel. It's maybe 1/4 to 1/2 inch but would bother me). Then I marked where the bolt holes were, double checked to make sure everything was straight and then drilled the holes. The extent of fabrication was I had to cut a spacer/perch for the front left driver and front right passenger seat rails as they didn't reach the floor, but all the other holes are good to go. I did make sure to use extra large washers on the back bolts so they don't pull through in the case of an accident.

Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
I really like my factory seat but it was reupholstered in the early '90's and has too much foam in it now. My legs rub the steering wheel!
AND I'd like to have head rests without seat belt connectors getting in the way of sliding over.... Not sure what I"ll do but it'll come later. |

Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
I used 2009 seats from a GM truck, and pull the seat belt from the rear seats of a 2000 dodge. I did do some cutting on the center to make it sit flush with the front of the sides but it was minor, then I only needed to drill holes.
This is a diagram showing the cut I made, this only moves the middle seat forward and might not be necessary. I also use a small steering wheel.

Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
Since I'm on the hunt right now for newer seats with the belts attached I got thinking about floor reinforcements. I was a wrecker opperator for a body shop and hauled in some nasty wrecks. The metal failures I seen were all where there was a weld joint. Most of the newer cars have much of them glued together. Not once have I seen a glued joint failure, or the metal near it. It might be something for those of you who were going to weld 2" supports under the seat bolts to look into something like Fusor. A bit expensive but it's much stronger than welding, won't compromise the floor strength, and great corrosion resistance. We had the big tubes at the body shop but Fusor does have smaller single use sizes that don't need the special gun.

Re: what seats did you put in your 67-72 Chevy truck ?
OK--here we go, I usually don't post--but I installed an unusal seat in my project you might like to see--a 2001 Dodge Ram power seat--the feet fit, except for the contractor office console in the middle that require a 3/4 inch shim--I used a polyurethane bushing about 3 inchs wide and 3/4 tall. Don't have a lot of pics, but here is what I have. This seat is way more comfortable than in other truck seat I have sat in and maybe this is because when it came time to buy a diesel truck I wanted a Cummins engine and my seat is now used to the seat. You do sit a few inches taller than the stock seat, I am 5'-9" and have several inches from the ceiling--if you are tall, better measure or cut the seat frame down.
