Totally understandable. And I would of, might still if this doesnt work out, buy his. My thing is I basicly do what he does for a living, so its hard to fork over $$ for something I can make. That and sometimes its fun beating your head reinventing the wheel. When Im done Ill have a set of one off hinges that are different from everyone elses.

Re: Project Daily Driver in the weeds

So I sat on the drawings for a bit, stared at them, contemplated them, then finally cut them. I knew I needed to measure more, but it basically came down to I needed to just try another set. I finally got around to getting them on. And they work, way better then the first set. They need some small tweaking to make it better but I think they are usable at this point. When opening the hood it binds just a bit on the cowl, Ill try trimming the 1/2" lip on the back of the hood down a bit. Im sure screwing the cowl panel down would help too.

Re: Project Daily Driver in the weeds

Having the hinges working motivated me to do something else to the hood.

First start with hood that has rust issues and came from a suburban I am currently parting out.

Prep it for surgery by making some cut lines.

Bring out the cutting device, aka grinder with a 6 inch cut off wheel, and let it do its thing.

Set the drops off to the side

Continue cutting

After some cutting you end up with these

some sheetmetal clamps holding it all together

Test fit on truck to see what it looks like

I didnt use much of any really. Just kinda guessed. Basically I took two 20" sections out from either side of the center.

Good luck. Keep me updated on your progress. Mine wont be done for awhile. I need the motor back in so that I can add more tricks to it.

Re: Project Daily Driver in the weeds

you will probably be done with yours before i even start mine

i would need to buy a spare hood, a mig welder, and since im going to school for truck driving, im gonna need some time as well, and somewhere to do it when i am not working, which will only be 4 days a month if im lucky, and plus i will be moving on top of all that...... will probably just rent a small shop/storage place to work on it and what not
