That was the intake mod's....Two BBL to 4BBl square bore to 4BBl spread bore...to Q-Jet.
The rest is history. I'm ready to stuff this thing this weekend....maybe. The exhaust manifold on the drivers side had the ear and part of the port at the rear broken off....so I got out the rose-bud and a bit of Ni-Cad rod and then a grinder....and rebuilt the dang thing. It turned out great.

Very nice. Where'd you get the carb mounting plate/spacer? I'm looking for one for my 351V6 to run a holley 500. As far as I know, they have to be custom made.

I like that truck....looks pretty damn stout! I just picked up a '66 GMC C15, and I am wanting to lift it up to be about stock height of a 4x4. Not sure how I am gonna do it, but been trying to get suggestions to how to go about it. Anyways, nice truck bud...those tires and rims look good on your rig!

I think that could be another nice ride for you! I dont wanna lift mine too much, just to about stock 4x4 height....so maybe about 3-4 inches and will probably run some 7.50x16's on stock rims. I think they are about 31 or 32 inches in height. Let me know if you come up with something! Thanks

Ok.....Here's the deal.....
I thought I would take a couple hours to swap that 305E for the 351E..... Mostly because I thought it would be a quick job. That ain't the case.....from what I'm seein' so far. I started to pull the 305 and, because it was so dang heavy, figured I'd yank the front clip.... After that, since I was so far into it....I figured I'd dress up the engine bay, paint the fire-wall, fix a rusty spot in the floorboard, swap the SM420 for a TH400....powdercoat the white grill & trim....and so on ...and so on .... So I am getting things done between naps and meds and more recovery and back to it and recover for a bit and then over-do it again and recover and get chewed out for over-doing it and saying I'm sorry (and actually being sorry) to my wife for what I've done....and you know the rest of the story... I'll take a few pic's and give you all something more than a story so you know I'm actually gettin' somethin' done instead of just napping and feeling remorseful.

I do have the goodies... When I picked up the 351 it was adorned with the TH400 conversion hardware. That's quite a set-up. Probably a rare find......at least if you're looking for one. I will have to find the correct cross member pretty quick... Just a side-note on the way things can go when you least expect it.. I picked up a TH400, ready to bolt in...., and had it on a pallet on the forks getting ready to install the torque converter..... It was time to break for dinner and I made a wrong move....and dropped the dang thing. It only fell about a foot, but that mutha hit just right (or wrong)....and broke the case in three spots.....not just one.....THREE places. So I found a good case for chump change....got a soft parts kit for $35 and swapped guts.....all the time telling myself...." I wanted to inspect the insides of that thing all along ".... And that's a bunch of hor$e$hit.....I just couldn't believe how fragile that case was. I've been pretty rough with auto trannys over the years and never hurt one yet.....but I sure did a number on this one... Anyhow......That's just par for the course. I guess I'll sure be more careful from now on..

I think the only hang-up I'll have to deal with is the tranny X member and the transfer case shifter linkage mount....as it used to bolt to the top of the SM420.

I am not 100% sure but I believe that the auto xmember is the same up to 72 they are all flat straight across.

remember that the 4 x 4 frame is deeper than the standard frame and measure down from the top of the frame. I did use a p/glide crossmember in mine out of a 65 2 whl dr. they are around but not that easy to find. I will see if I can find or take a pic for you. you may have to make one
I cannot remember what year yours is , but don't know whether or not whether the 60-62 4 x 4 had the wider frame like the 2 whl dr did? ron now that I am away from writing I see that it is a 63 so it is the same width as a 64, so there is a thought . will get back later after I look at it. By rondavid at 2011-08-31 here is the only pic that I have handy of that crossmember that I put in.. for the t/case shifter mounting why not make a brkt that uses the bolts where the t/housing meets the main body of the trans. just longer bolts ron |
