Re: 72 GMC shortbed build
Thank You. The mirrors are electric power mirrors off of a 2000 Honda Odessey. They work very well, I kinda of wish I would have moved them forward 2 more inches, But when I orginally mounted them on the doors I was not sure of putting the 1 piece windows in it. thanks Tim

Re: 72 GMC shortbed build
Ok, I did not document my build thread nearly as much as I should have. So here are a few things to sum it up.
72 GMC, Started as a step side, sold the bed, Stripped down to bare frame, sand blasted, or bead blasted everything, Installed all new bushing and steering, put a 5 -7 seven axle flip with spindles and springs, installed built 700 r4 trans with one piece drive line, originally put a 69 vette 327 in it, all body work cut out all the bad repaired, frenched antenna, cut the roof off and added a roof with markers built in. (at the request of my son). added one piece windows, power windows, power locks, and power mirrors, the mirror came off a 2000 Honda Odessey, The paint is PPG pr4, bc/cc. added front and rear roll pans, polished and painted the grille, added red dot H4 headlights which I smoked, also smoke the turn indicators on the front grille along with all side markers, which are Trans am markers with the cnc cut flush bezels, The rear cargo light was stripped and painted to match the truck, smoked the lens and put led brake lights in it. The rear I added the spagetti enginering led lights and Marqueez Billet lens, Shaved the tailgate. Filled antenna hole on front cowl, and added billet washer nozzles, I used a 21 circuit EZ wiring kit for the electrical, Also added a scorpion relay kit which runs the ac and electric fan. Added a 4 core aluminum radiator and used the electric fan from the Jeep Liberty. All interior pieces are in ostrich skin (except seats) (Leather) out of 2012 Honda oddesey. Billet Door handles All gauges are Autometer, Aftermarket Kenwood stereo with custom kick panel pods and corner brackets behind seat, along with Sub woofer box which holds 2 10's and Amp Added a Flaming river tilt column with custom Billet steering wheel, B&M Floor shifter. All new brake lines with Braided stainless going into all 4 wheel which have Wilwood disc brakes. Also new master cylinder booster and propotioning valve. Ran all new fuel Lines to the Boyd Welding rear mounted fuel tank. Spray in Bed Liner and fiberglass Bed Cover. Changed all the wheel studs out for longer studs, with the thicker wheels( not needed but felt better about it) Rebuilt the 4.11 limited slip rear end. All new poly urethane mounts and sway bar bushings. Added a washer bottle from a 2006 Impala with electric pump in tank, not off the wiper motor. Also added a coolant overflow off newer Nissan Altima. Marker lights on rood have been smoked and are led, They are made for semi truck marker lights, but made them work on the roof. The whole interior was sound deadend (dyno mat) before any carpet or panels were installed. Topped it of with the Boss wheels and Toyo tires. After driving it for a few weeks we really did not like the power curve of the motor, it was to much top end, not enough torque, Ended up building a 350 motor with vortech heads for it, drove it one day after haviing new motor in and took out 3-4 th gear in the built tranny, Pulled tranny back out, took back to the builder and they went thru everything again, this time upgrading the pump from a 7 vane to a 10 vane added some heavier servos, and changed some valving, etc. Truck runs awesome now. shifts very nice, could not be happier !!!! I know I forgot quite a bit, but thought I would sum some of it up for those interested. When reading thru this it looks like it should be a pretty quick simple project, but between work and everything else it took right around 8 months to complete, Last edited by Timbo1; 08-01-2012 at 02:36 PM. Re: 72 GMC shortbed build
Thanks , I feel it turned out very nice, The front grille was something we played around with, tried to get a little diferent look. we used 67-68 eye browls with a 69-72 top bar, Kind of wanted the chrome on the grille to continue but not take away from the looks.

Re: 72 GMC shortbed build
A couple of questions if you don't mind?
What head lights are those? Same for the LED marker lights? Did you do LED back up lights, too? Trying to not reinvent the wheel here. |

Re: 72 GMC shortbed build
The headlights are from the street rod group, Tri Bar Red Dot Street Hot Rat Rod Headlights H4 Bulbs lamps, the The side markers are 194, but the number transfers to to h10, so there pretty easy to find. And yes the reverse lights are led, They are just a board cut to fitr the opening, very bright. I tinted all the lens to make them look diferent.
