In the center of the cab not much maybe .25" but around the outside and in the back of the cab and B pillars there is alot of open area
we are working on getting the cab ready right now we got some rain here last week and we are making sure the inside is DRY order the product I mentioned and we will be filling the cab pretty soon

You do know that there's a cardboard like material between the inner and outer roof panels, right? Not sure how you're going to get it completely coated inside.

Re: anyone used expanding foam in there cab ???

I too have been wanting to do this for a while. Have you looked into the structural foams at all? I have been thinking about filling the A/B pillars and possibly other areas to make sort of a built in roll cage out of the existing structure of some of my vehicles. I am a ways off from actually pulling the trigger and doing any of this on any of my projects, but you might be interested in looking into it.

They are using foam to fill new cars both to quiet the interiors, and to make the passenger compartment more rigid, There are different types of foam for each application.

We sell the AL's liner Heat and Noise reducer HNR

Al’s Heat and Noise Reducer (HNR) is a proprietary blend of latex synthetic polymers. It contains acrylic, PVA and vinyl styrene reinforced with ceramic microspheres that provide incredible insulation, heat reflection and sound deadening properties. HNR can withstand up to 500°F and reflects exterior temperatures by 45°F or more and reflects up to 36 percent of solar energy. It provides a heat shield for floor pans, firewalls, roofs and much more. Visit www.alsliner.com.

Here's a link about a comparo on sound deadening. Check it out. Oh, it's a lot of reading material, but it explains a lot.

Thanks to Mike, in Rhode Island for the link.

Yes Gm uses diff formulas for different sections. The pillars get Betafoam GM9982296. It has a water absorbtion of .079 % or close. Thats measured on a 3" x 3" section heated in an oven and dried. Then totally submerged in De-ionized water for 24 hrs. and longer and weighed. so you can see it has very little absorbtion.

Here's what it looks like inside there in case you're going to have a go at this. You've got that lip in the back to contend with.

Re: anyone used expanding foam in there cab ???

I find it really ironic that someone running a 468 with straight pipes coming out in front of the rear wheels is that concerned about sound deadening.

I think I know where a lot of that noise is coming from!

I would think that it would be a lot of work for a minimal amount of difference. New trucks are much quieter, but all new trucks also have full headliners and pillar covers with WAY more insulation that you could get in a truck with a bare metal inside cab. I'd think there's no way you ever get one of these trucks as quiet as a new one.

I'm crazy - but not that crazy! There was a large dent in the top of the cab and we decided it was easier to swap skins than it was to pull the dent. Click the C20 resto thread below to see more.

One thing that concerns me right now is PREP these products seem to suggest that for these to work right prep is important and there is NO way to prep inside the roof panels. does anyone know what, if anything GM did to the metal that wasnt exposed did they use any kind of coating or inhibitor on them ?
And that's the problem with these trucks.
It doesn't matter how high a quality foam we get, we won't be able to get it to stick without getting in between to prep the surfaces properly.

Re: anyone used expanding foam in there cab ???

Just a thread bump.....

Note to All;

Do Not Use that Foam Insulation.

Someone put it in the cab back corners.

When I pulled the stuff out, the foam was dry, the metal was wet. It holds moisture.
