I think my truck has a 3.07 ratio, 2300 rpm at 65mph. Still don't know its back there.

I mostly use mine for collecting rain,pollen,rust and spare parts for the reassembly!!!That reminds me anybody need a set of the overload leaf springs(or whatever you call 'em).

Well, come mid May, I'm going to be using mine big time...gonna bolt the hitch back up, because I'll either be hauling a UHaul enclosed trailer, or the GT on a flat trailer...not to mention a full load in the bed and cab!

Does anyone use a trailer? I have a 72 longhorn with a plywood bed. I haul all I need on the trailer and small things in the bed of truck. Works great. That way I just unhook trailer and my truck is free.

my 68 extend acab is driven year round hauls campers trikes snowmobiles parts buildind materials houls the trailer withe patrs trucks customers vehicles the race car even hauled 9000 lbs of ceramic tile back from calgary hauled a 69 chev 1 ton dually with an 11 foot steel deck with a 120000 lbs winch and gin poles on the trailer of course took 4 and a half hours to go just over a hundred miles lets see you do all this in your new overpriced tin can

I had 2 tons of pea gravel in my truck one day and it's only a half ton. then I had to drive several miles down the interstate and then 20 miles down one of the worst stretches of highway. one of those that has the bunps at every seam of the pavement so the truck just gallops. kinda hard on axles and springs. but I just had to use first gear to get going and then it was smooth sailing.

My grandpa had a 67 half ton 2wd that he used in his heavy construction business for 217,000 miles. he hauled 100 gal of diesel(800 lbs) and severl hundred pounds of tools and oil in it every day of it's life(close to 1500 lbs). the heaviest load it carried was prolly a set of tracks from a D8 Caterpillar over 50 miles to the shop. he pulled model 70 and 80 Caterpillar pull scrapers with it once in a while. had to be careful where you went though cause you couldn't stop those things very well.

He had a set of dayton tires on a 73 chevy 4wd once and he was practically the poster child for them cause he ran those tires for over 70,000 miles with tread still on them. the sidewalls started to dry rot apart before they wore out. the tire dealer told people about this set of tires when trying make a sale and the people usually replied that they must've babied the tires the salesman then told them whose truck they were on and the people knew that the tires wern't babied!!!!!

he used his trucks for everything and pushed them to the max but he never did stupid stuff just trying to tear up the truck. that should say something about a Chevy for ya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best ride I ever had in a stock longbed was when i was hauling a huge grand piano around, talk about squatting, my exhaust was touching the road

OK,
I hauled this Cow squeeze today with my 86 K30, but I looked up the pictures from the first trip in 1998 with my old 70 GMC.
The Squeeze weighs 6500 pounds and is about 30 feet long. The trailer weighs 1400 and is only like 17 feet long. If that wasn't bad enough, I threw a full load of crap in the bed of the truck and junk up inside the squeeze. I started at 3000 feet in the Sierra's near Grass Valley Ca, and dropped down to like 300 feet at Marysville and then to Mt. Shasta over Hebron at 5200 feet and on to K-Falls Oregon then Bend. 500 miles in a mere 17 hours at 45 max, over that and it would sway like heck. On Dunsmuir grade, I was in second gear of a 465 box.

Here is my entry;

It weighs 7500lbs and is 31ft long.

It has been pulled with my "Camper Special" from coast to coast several times including several trips up and down Grapevine Pass in California.

I might add the last two times with over 1000lbs in the back (welding machine).

2 days ago I hauled 20- 80 pound bags of softener salt (1600 lbs) the truck rode like a Caddy but to look at it didn't even squat but the sidewalls bulged a little bit.

first off 68CST327 gets my vote for best avatar,,ha ha ha,,and i dont have any pictures either, but once on my long gone 68 k 20 i had to go get a load of wood, i stacked split hickory corded in the bed 2 feet above the top of the cab , how the leaf springs kept from snapping ill never know ? i had 44" ground hawgs on it at the time, and the got knocked down to about 38's,, they were bulging quite nicley,,i think it gave me about 20 inches of foot print ,,ha ha ha ha ha
