still w.i.p '68,we had a 460 Farmall, about 15 years ago that was a narrow front end,a guy that worked for us was bushhoging one of our pasture feilds and ran it into a hole and completly broke the front end out from under it,the steering wheel spun around and broke his arm,but like you said the tractor was never the same,we put a M frontend under it and used it for a year or so and sold it,I miss it it was a real good tractor,my grandfather bought it new,but as I said it was never the same.

MR G.,
Now I know this is the twilight zone, I said we had somethings in common, but this is rediculous, again ours is a '66 SS, with a "67 front clip......BUTTERNUT YELLER. this is a pic when it is very dirty, so don't judge to harsh I need to put the 327 V flags back on.

Yes, we are members of the HPOCA. My brother actually dated Sherry for awhile. We currently have five Olivers. The 1966 model 1950 in the picture was at the National show at Plain City in 2001 and is featured on the video. I think we had just finished putting the engine together the week before the show.

Yes it is made by oliver, the Super 66 has a four cyl. in it and the Super 77 has a six cyl. in it,but what is so unique about the two engines are that the pistons rods and valves, starters all interchange, the 6cyl. engine in the 77 would be the same exect engine in the 66,if you cut off two cylinders,I guess it was cheaper on parts for oliver,or to make parts more avalable.

67 SS,Yes they do have a uniquie sound,I don.t know if it is something about the manifold,or in the head, but they do sound different than any other, oliver did use some GM diseals that were supercharged, and some detroit diseals, and even some catapiller diseals, but the oliver made diseals were a unique sounding motor

Farmall C
This thread brings back a lot of memories. When I was a kid it seemed like my whole life was spent on that old Farmall tractor.
I was about six when I started working in the tobacco fields. We had a one row setter with two seats and Mom and Dad would plant and I would drive the tractor.I was too little to hold the clutch in and steer at the same time so Dad would get us started down a row and jump off the tractor and on to the setter and I would steer to the end of a row and push the clutch in and put her in neutral and Dad would turn her around and we'd start again. Dad's eighty now and still farms some but the old tractor got sold a few years back, wish we still had it. Good Luck Tom

TOMMAY,thats great I love to hear stories like that,I spent many an hour myself on a setter too,my dad took two,one row mechanical setters and built a frame, and made a two row setter, only bad thing is you had to have four people to operate it,or be very fast,we still have all of our tobacco stuff, but we stopped fooling with raising any about 97,we also had a carisale setter we used the last year we did tobacco, they are the way to go for setting tobacco,if you ever saw one work you would know they can set tobacco three times as fast as a mechanical,or drag type setter.

Mike, are you a fan of tracked tractors? A few of the "big boys" around here have them. That's ag tractors with rubber tracks.

I bought this for parts,it has a chevy six cylinder in it,I am probably going to play with this and put a V8 in it,the owner before me did an OK job of putting the motor in but it has weatherd and he pulled the carb off,and some things are cobbelled up,but as far as the brakes rearend and tranny it seems to be OK,to cool the six cylinder the owner before me took a waterpump and turned it around, with the pulley and turned the fan around, and ran a belt down to another pulley on a shaft tied into the crank pulley to help cool,he also had to run the steering shaft on the outside of the frame, for the motor to fit, there is allot of half done things but in time I think I can turn it in to something very nice, and it is worth it too,it is an OLIVER.

I thought I would get more for that post as I have seen quite a few really good "debates" over that. Come on Guys! The old line was something like "Real tractors don't have any rubber" or something like that. Anyway, this thread has been one of the better ones to show up here....good reading indeed. Mike |
