It hard to find a console that has survived that doesn't look like crap. So I thought, what the heck, I'm eventually going to do this right anyway, so I asked PT's 70 CST to do one for me, and man did he knock it out of the park. Putting this in the truck is going to stand out like a diamond in a goats butt.
that console looks great! Plans are meant to be changed you should know that by now

Well, I just received a gigantic surprise. 67/72 Junkie just sent me a PM to let me know he would be shipping my console this week.

I'm glad he's OK. Nice guy, bad luck.

Too bad you already paid for the other one...but I bet you can sell one or the other and recoup your investment....hopefully. Better than nothing for sure!!!

Oh well, making some progress. Got the new dash pad installed, new door window rubbers and felts. I've got the radio installed, new speakers in the door. Got a new speedo cable, waiting on the new oil pressure line, then I will be installing the tach dash. Soon afterwards, carpet, bucket seats and console. I'd like to get this puppy buttoned up on the inside before winter. It'll be nice to have it on the road again.

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

A set of parchment seat belts arrived today that I purchased from ckexswb. Pricey, but the console that PT put together really raised the bar. They match perfect. I hope the weather is decent this weekend so I can make progress on getting the interior put together.

A friend of mine has bought my other project, USTom, so I will be able to focus on Yeller and NovoCayne over the winter. I've got lots of neat suspension goodies that more than likely will wind up here.

Yeah, that is poor, isn't it? I hate the time change, no light after work. I'll put some up tomorrow.

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

Thanks Chuck - it's all wired up but I havent heard a single tune out of it yet. Tomorrow I hope to get the tach dash wired up and then I can hook the battery up.

I'm going to try and get the bucket seats and console mocked up this weekend. I want to get this rascals interior finished before it gets too cold to work on it. Supposed to be 73 tomorrow so it's looking like I'll get a lot done.

Pics tomorrow!

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

Here's a few pix of the console and belts. I know these rascals are going to be fun as all ^%^#!! to keep clean, but they sure look good now.

And here's Ol Yeller getting ready for the new stuff...

The plan for now is to get the cabin spruced up and leave the outside pretty much original for now. I also got the passenger side upper bed trim put on today, got the tach wired up along with the electric choke. . The PO had the power brake vacuum line plumbed into the intake manifold?? I had never seen that before, so I re-routed that to the base of the carb. There were two grounds that weren't hooked up so I got those bolted down.

I also got the dash all hooked up and installed today. So I figured this would be a good time to check all the electrics and they all looked good, so I decided to fire her up for the first time since Spring. Fired up after I pumped it twice. I had forgotten how good she sounds.

Now I am going to try and get the seats and console mocked up for bolt holes then install the carpet.

1960 Biscayne - more pix in the build thread in my sig. I'm going to focus on getting the Biscayne done by Spring - that's why I'm trying to get the inside of this done. Ol Yeller will get a complete frame off at some point in the future - including taking the interior back apart.

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

Thanks Keith - I'll be as surprised as you to see how this one turns out.

Last Monday a few of us were trying to organize and drive our trucks to a board members funeral (DougMinton). I was going to take my 72 Cheyenne but a guy I share shop space with decided he would change out his rear axle right in front of the door and I couldn't get the truck out.

Since I had recently fired up Ol Yeller, I figured I would try to throw it together enough to take it. I got about a mile from the house when it started hesitating, almost as if it was running out of gas, but I knew that wasn't the case. I decided to give it an Italian tune up and revved it up a bit. It ran up pretty good for about 10 seconds, then the bogging and lurching started, followed by a loud backfire through the carb, and then it died.

I got it restarted and I thought maybe it did this because the gas may have been stale since it had sat since last Spring so rather than turn around I kept going to the gas station. Made it another 200 yard and it did the same thing and died, only now it won't start. Bummer. Left it by the side of the road and started walking back to the house and a guy gave me a ride. I made it to the funeral on time, but without the truck. Oh well, I gave it a good effort.
