Yes that is correct it is a *****in firewall and floorboards, and I hope they aren't out of business because we were actually looking to get their inner fenders. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
So it has been forever since we last posted. We've decided to go a different route and go with all new bedsides. So we no longer need these bed caps that we made up. If anyone is interested in giving their truck a nice smooth look just send us a PM and we can talk details. Hopefully post some more pictures of the new fender and bedsides here shortly.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
So we are finally going to be able to get back onto the project. We've purchased new bedsides and a fender so we can start the mock up phase. Dad and I picked up the parts from Classic Parts while he was up visiting here in KC. Unfortunately, they didn't have the bedsides so he had to take home only the fender. So, I just picked up the parts and they look awesome. To our surprise the bedsides actually came from Mar K which was an added plus for us. The packaging that these bedsides came in is top notch for sure, extremely impressed with Mar K. Next on the list is to grab the rear roll pan and a few other items from LMC. Hopefully soon we'll have some pictures of the bed mocked up and sitting on the frame.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Was the price from Classic Parts the same as buying them from Mar-K?
I have bought many parts from Mar-K and no complaints, great product and good shipping price with quantity order

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
They were actually cheaper. When we went the first time to buy them they were out of stock. So they called us two weeks later and told us they were in, I'm just wondering if they needed some quickly so they just made a deal with Mar K? Guess it all works out in the end, we are definitely happy with the product.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
What all did you do to your frame and suspension? I'm starting to work again on mine (52 GMC) after sitting for 10 years and want to get my frame prepped so that I have a rolling chassis with independent suspension. I've got a GMC 302 inline 6 coming and will be dropping that in.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
I just saw that you used a 70 swb frame for your frame. Sorry! Thats a great idea. How did everything fit up? Was there a lot of modifications? Your truck looks awesome by the way. I'm very jealous! I bought my truck when I was 22 and was going to build it with my dad as well. He passed away when I was 25 and now being married with one kid and another on the way, I finally got the bug again after seeing a 49 GMC in this February's edition of Custom Classic Trucks. Reading all these forums and seeing pictures of people building and actually finishing their projects helps keep me fired up! Best of luck on your project!

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Finally got all the parts delivered to my dad so he was able to make a little progress. Here is what he's gotten done. The only thing he wasn't able to get attached was the roll pan.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Nice choice of hardware on the bed SS!
I found a tip with the SS bolts someone told me about, Chuck the bolt up in your drill press and take a file to the head and remove the lettering, then with sand paper polish the head. Make sure the drill is on SLOW speed. You will like the results. Looks like a noch needs to be cut into the rear crossmember of the bed to accept the roll pan. The finished price of a complete bed and fenders takes care of a LOT of hours of metal work form your body shop, and a new bed!!!

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
Well as much as I hate to say it, we finally ended up selling our project. This was the last thing my dad ever wanted, however the funds just weren't there and he is ready to get his motor in a truck and burning some tires. So we compromised and found another project. Let us know what you think, and we will be starting a new thread shortly.

Re: Long Term 48 5-Window
And here is our new project, 71 C10 with a straight 6. Since we have already done all the work to the 70 frame that was sitting under the 48 we are just going to swap frames, do some body work new paint, wheels and we should be good to go. Hope you guys have enjoyed. Thanks
