Re: 55-56-57
No real difference except = 56 emblems above fender line, 55 emblems below fender line and hood emblems are different. The 57 and up I think had a different front bearing on axle and shackle set up different. If you want more info just google it a lot of info on 55-57 Trucks. Mine is a 56 and I have had a 57 Big Window, and a 55 Small Window. So I decided on a 56 this time around with a small window only cause the truck was only $600 with two cabs sold the worst one for two hundred. Plus I am partial to small window my dad had one, always like them more than the glass house.

Re: 55-56-57
The only other way and correct way to tell if it is 55-56 is to look at Vin Number on inside of Door post driver side should be also same number stamped on top of left side (Driver) frame near steering box. If you looking for a truck there is a 1957 Truck in Texas that is on the Hamb Board for sale. Now quit asking to many questions and start building one

there sure are some good looking trucks on here. Here's my work in progress. The wife took these this weekend after getting the truck back on the road again.

Re: 55-56-57
Thanks Kim.
I re-read your build thread like once a week. You are doing some fantastic work. More than I dare to do for sure but your build is very motivating! Thanks!

Re: 55-56-57
thanks Jim,
still needs some 'stuff' but I'm happy to have her back on the road. Half way home I decided I would rebuild the 283 (with my sons) instead of going the way of the crate motor.

Re: 55-56-57
That's a great looking truck. I was wondering where you were. Haven't seen any pics of your truck since right after you got it. Is that what a factory shifter for an automatic truck looks like? That must be extremely rare if it is. Don't be stingy with the interior pics, we all want to see them too. I've already decided from your pics that I might just smooth my dash instead of repairing the damaged radio holes.

Re: 55-56-57
Hi Russell,
yeah, not too many pictures because I've been working on it since then! I really need to sit down and do a build-type thread but I've been riding around town in my truck now that it's back on the road. As far as the shifter, I believe it is. I haven't decoded the VIN to find out if my truck was an auto or stick but I do know it is an original V8 truck. I really need to get the 'V' badges on it, I think they look cool. I'll post the interior pics when I get home. I can't access photobucket from this computer. I'll be at the local Chevy dealership this Saturday for the 100th Anniversary of Chevy Car & Truck Show. Wish me luck! I'll post pics from the show afterr I get back! My apologies for the high-jack.
