Also got the harness a bit closr to what I need, sill waiting on a TAC module to get here so I can figure out where to mount it and modify the harness for it. Also have the gas tank in place but not bolted down ,still working out the mounting.
I'm running the same setup you have. you don't need to make differant cups just add a bump stop to the lower a arm. I made mine 1"tall x1 1/2 dia. bar stock. Mine sits 1" off the ground on the stops and still has 40 psi in the bags.

thanks jjjmm56, I had thought of that ,but just had hoped my initial measurements were correct (don't we all) these bags have internal stops built in so was hoping to avoid adding them ,but I may anyway.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

Well, a new problem, since the ball joint angles are too steep and the track too wide I am in search of different control arms(shorter) I want to be able to turn lock to lock when she's sitting low. If I had done my homework better I would probably went the mustang 2 route, anyone ever ran aftermarket control arms for the Camaro clip to get a narrower track on 55-59 trucks? guess I could sell my front wheels and get a different offset also??? Hey Kabwe your friend 55Eddie with the black truck ,do you know if he can actually drive his truck? I ordered the same wheels he has.

I've been looking for 71-79 Camaro control arms and they are not cheap from what I've seen, hopefully you can find some at a good price then spread the word.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

I'm not as low as you when aired out, I have about 3" to the ground with stock spindle and the shockwaves and am running 18/40/225 tires on 8" Boss rims.

I plan to add some drop spindles I have here that should drop it down lower so we'll see if that develops the same issue you're having.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

This is depressing,If I try and turn it at any height other than about 1" of tire under the fender the tire rubs, I have dropped spindles and am running 18x7 with 3.75 backspacing wheels (235/40/18 tire) Anyone interested in a new set of American racing torque thrust 2s, chrome inners w/ polished aluminum outer rims on new Hankook Ventus tires??

Question Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

Anyone narrowed their camaro/nova clip or know of someone else who's done it, I saw over on the HAMB forum that it has been done a lot but cant find a thread anywhere showing it being done? from what I can see I will have to narrow the tie rods, make new motor mount frame stands and because the heater hose outlets are already so close to the right upper control arm ill have to modify those also, any other ideas, concerns, inputs??

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

These guys sell a set of A arms that are narrower than stock.
About 3/4 way down on this page are the specs for their GM arms.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

Thanks Kim57, I have seen those but being the do it myself guy I am (READ THAT CHEAP) I would prefer to either narrow my own or I may split the crossmember and remove 2-3" there.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

I was once told that s 10 arms will work on a camaro sub. You might want to look into that. I set my ride hight at 4" from the ground to the bottom of my rocker and have no problem steering, but I also have more backspace on my rims.

Yes, that is a beautiful truck, thanks JJJM56 ,I think I'm leaning toward narrowing the clip.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

Still searching for any info on narrowing a clip, a lot of references that people have done it but no build type threads, guess I will have to do it myself. I have been working on an idea for the jig .

I am sure S10 control arms will not swap on 71-up Camaro frames.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

Well, I ran across a thread over on the HAMB site talking about narrowing a Camaro clip for use in early fat fendered cars, one of the posts mentioned a tech article in a 1991 issue of street rodder magazine so using the magic of the web I now have a copy of that rag in my hands, and it is a great how to article, so here we go ,got a bunch of new cut off discs and am itchin' to cut something up,will post pics as I proceed.

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

still working on a plan for narrowing the clip, I was able to obtain a copy of the article mentioned earlier but still as we all know, when you change one thing it leads to other problems, i can probably get 3" out of the X member but it will require i move the engine up, so then the tunnel will have to be modified (it's already close), I can bring the engine forward to avoid that but the LS1 oil pan will need to be cut because it is close to X member now, sooo still doin some head scratchin'

Re: The beginning, my 57 LS powered streetrod

I cut the 69 camaro clip on my 38 coupe. An old rodder friend came over and we just put a piece of 2" tape around the center of the crossmember, took a cut off wheel, cut on bout sides of the tape, slid it togeather and welded it up. Yes, new mounts were made, but the stock ones wouldn't have worked anyway. All lined up and drives good.
