Because they are old enough to be super cool and nostalgic but not old enough to need to use an s-10 frame LOL.

"need" apparently being a relative term..

it was convenience for me, I am always sniffing around for a good deal and my friend brenden had a 62 swb for $500.

of course I couldnt title the 62, so I had to switch cabs to a 65, but that is still only half of the story.

Wow, Great experiances everyone. Mine is way different though. I never cared for the 60 - 66 body style. I always liked the 67 - 72 body styles much better. BUT while wandering through the Pick N Pull in Fairfeild CA about 1986 I spotted a 66 Short box Fleetside in the builders section for $300.00. The body was very straight - no motor but the trans, drive shaft bell housing etc. was all in the back of the bed. I bought it, took it home and I was hooked. I picked up a good motor from a 73 Monte Carlo and stuffed it in. As a bonus I found the truck had POSI I was happy as could be. It was a very reliable truck. I eventually got married and my new wife hated that truck so I sold it. A year later I got rid of the wife. I wish I kept the truck. I always talk about that truck with fond memories. I'm now on marriage #3 and unknown to me my wife had been on the hunt for a 64-66 for me. She found our truck a couple of years ago at the Turlock swap meet & the rest is history. I still like the 67 - 72's but I LOVE the 60 - 66's. They are so different, they really stand out.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

About the time I was 13 Dad bought a 60 something 64 or 65 I think, stepside swb from a widow of the church. It had the 3 on the tree. The shift tubes would lock up and the main seal leaked. I learned to drive a manual on that.

Since then I've loved the body style. Dad went on to 1 or 2 more of these trucks. I've had 3 of my own. 1 was a 65 lwb fleet 4x4. The last 1 before my 63 Burb was the perfect truck. A 66 lwb fleet bbw with factory air. I bought it in 93 from a neighbor, not long after Dad died. Put a lot of work and love into that truck. Had to sell it, well I thought I did, when work relocated me and the family from Calif to WVa. I should have towed it out here.

After my wife died in Feb. I needed something to keep me going. Decided another old truck I could work on was the way to fight the depression. So I went looking for a 64-66 Chevy, preferably a lwb bbw fleetside. Instead I found I really liked the Burbs too. So hey, same truck but diferent.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

My first truck was a 65 chevy that dad used on the farm. When he quit using it he said if I could get it running I could have it. A $50 motor later and it was mine. Drove it all through high school with a red cab and a light green bed. Didn't have any money for a paint job.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

One day at work this guy I was talking to said he was trying to sell a truck 61 chevy short stepside. I said thats when I was born so I went the fifty miles to look at it and bought it. That was fall of 1986. My first truck was a 60. I really missed that old thing so when this came up I had to buy it. On New years day in 88 my cousin got married in Odessa Tx. My aunt wanted me to take her in my truck. It was just shy of 1400 miles I put on the old 6 banger and we had no trouble But less than 2 months later on the way to work I hit some sand on a curve, spun it around and flipped it over. she landed back on her wheels. Took a few years to get her back but this time I put all new parts if it needed it. I think I did her good over the past 26 years! When I got her, and rolled her and now.

I grew up camping out of the back of my sisters 65 chevy pickup every summer. I've always loved '60's styling. This era truck is both beautiful and nostalgic to me.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

my first love for these started in the early70's.my uncle had a red/white 65 c-20 with a 283 and 3 on the tree.he was one to never wash a truck and living in minnesota of course ate the body very quickly.the box sides looked like a bee hive,"you know the rest from there".anyways my father purchased the truck only to haul topsoil and dirt around the property and it was always parked behind the garage so being young i fell in love with that truck instantly.i was young and in my spare time i painted the chevrolet letters on the grill, waxed the old oxidized red paint that would only last a week or two, scrub the dry rotted tires and soon would take it out for short drives when no one was home,"before i got my license" and would race it like i was driving a race car. a few years after that my father sold it and i was a very sad boy.through the years up untill 18 months ago i have gone through many 50's and 60's cars ad the excitement would soon dwindle on each one and though in the last 37 years i have thought about that truck so many times over the years that when my last one went overseas i looked hard for a 62-66 chev to rekindle the memories that have lasted so long so i watch c.l.in montana, idaho and washington and finally found my 62 in yakima though i did not want another project since the wife's project is'nt complete yet but none the less my memories from the past have been rekindled in the 62.and yes i hav'nt gotten tired of this one and i don't think i will.

Talking Re: Why this Generation Truck?

"1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups.. Don't crush em, restore em"

Personally I like all the 1960-1966 Chevy/GMC Trucks.
Now the 1960-1963 are my personal favorites due to the wrap around windshields and double hump dashes.
Stepsides are my preference over Fleetsides.
My favorite grills are 1960-1961 grill/dual headlights.
If anyone has a 1960 anodized aluminum grille and wanna swap a '62 anodized aluminum grille.. I might swap if she is in good condition.
I like the 1960-1961 Chevy hoods... call me crazy
The only appearance to differentiate between the 1960 and 1961 trucks were that the parking light ovals were open around the spinners in 1961 where as in the 1960 models this area was entirely closed.
I like the extra trim packages that the GMC's had. Chevy got stingy a few years.
I like the GMC 62-66 Hoods due to the cat eye park lights.
I can go on and on... I agree with alot of you on this.

My truck was my first automobile since High School. So that will be 19 years that I have owned my truck. Next year will be ( 20 years ) that I have had my baby. Around NC/SC the 1973–1987, 1967-1972, and 1955-1959 trucks are very popular here. For years you did not see hardly any of 1960-1966 Chevy or GMC's. They are slowly getting popular again. I liked the body lines as well as the overall design. The wrap around windshields remind me of the First generation-C1 Chevrolet Corvette (1953–1962) and double hump dashes remind me of the second generation-C2 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. (1963–1967)

They sure look good in P___ Yellow or Puke Green!

Bob Falfa: Hey man, I'm sorry if I scared ya!
John Milner: You're gonna hafta do one heck of a lot more than that to scare me!
Bob Falfa: Hey I've been lookin' all over for ya man. Didn't nobody tell ya I was lookin' for ya?
John Milner: Man, I can't keep track of all you punks runnin' 'round here backwards.
Bob Falfa: Hey you're s'posed to be the fastest thing in the Valley man, but that can't be your car. It must be your mama's car! I'm sorta' embarrassed to be this close to ya!
John Milner: Yeah, well I'm not surprised, drivin' a field car!
Bob Falfa: Field car? What's a field car?
John Milner: A field car runs through the fields, droppin' cow **** all over the place to make the lettuce grow.
Bob Falfa: Ha ha! That's pretty good! Say, I like the color of your car there, man. What's that s'posed to be? Sort of a cross between p**** yella' and puke green ain't it?
John Milner: Well, you call that a paint job, but it's pretty ugly. I bet you got to sneak up on the pumps just to get a little air in your tires!
Bob Falfa: Well at least I don't have to pull over to the side just to let a funeral go by man.
John Milner: Oh ho, funny!

I see our generation trucks as the pivot point in time. Classic Exterior body curves, with modern sleekness.

I think that really sums it up. They were the pioneers of the current "wide body" trucks, but were created in a time when space travel and exotic aircraft were still all the rage in automotive design.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

It's an early '60s vehicle... it's not from the "modern" muscle car era.
It's the same thing as people who like '62 Bubble Top 409 cars, versus '69 Camaros.

The lines on our trucks are that transition from '50s chrome and fins, to '70s muscle car and land barge.

Our trucks are from another era... a much less modern era than '70s cars... distinct grills, distinct body panels and lines, wrap-around windshields ('60-'63), exposed wiper arms, and vent windows.

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

In high school, in the late 70's, I had a 64 SWB and my buddy had a 65 LWB. The summer after graduating we took his truck on a 3 month long road trip. We lived in the truck. We went west from Texas to visit my buddies brother who was in the Navy in SF bay area. From there we went north up to the Canadian border then eventually wondered back home through the rest of the states in the NW US. Most every time I see the truck I recall the good times we had.

My uncle Jessie had one when I was 13, I loved his 1965 short step w/BBW.
Ever since then I have wanted one! They look the coolest then and run better now with all the modern bells and whistles!

Re: Why this Generation Truck?

My dad had a 66 short step with a 250 six and I learned to drive the three on the tree by pulling tree stumps in the back yard. Man that was fun. As I got a little older, I became found of the 67-72 style and have owned many. I bought my 64 last June and it just brings back all those memories from my childhood. I get in, pull the choke, pump it 3 or 4 times and it fires up. All metal and manual everything. I love it that way. I love to roll down the windows, pull the lever for the floor vents. You really have to drive this truck and pay attention unlike the trucks today that practically drive by their self. No cell phone or texting in this truck.
