Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

Some mockups of the frame before powdercoat

I am having one small issue, may very well be mistaken, just not sure how yet. I think this rear lower shock mount bar has it's tabs welded on backwards. When I install the bar the way it wants to fit, the shock tabs are facing the rear, they are supposed to be frontwards. I've emailed Porterbuilt about it, will wait to hear from them.

Otherwise, everything looks great so far.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

I've got to be doing something wrong here, or this is just the way this is supposed to be:

See how the lower shock bar is inserted - and the trailing arm is leaned all the way over.

This is the only way this bar fits without stressing the tabs.

See pic of the trailing arm tipped straight.

That just doesnt look right.
If I install the lower shock bar backwards, it fits nicely. But the shock mounts are now on the wrong side.

Any thoughts? Anyone who's installed this, and can provide suggestions?
The only other thought is that either the trailing arm tabs are at the wrong angle, or the tubes on the end of the lower shock bar are backwards.
I've looked at all the pictures I can find, and the shock bar looks correct...

and mine:

and more

I'm focusing on cleaning the cab and prepping for paint, sanding down to baremetal as much as i can.
I've got a set of sanding blocks coming soon, for proper sanding and body putty work, and will be spraying primer, and gloss black interior and body wells.

more pics - dropped the motor in for fitment - fits great - just needs the transmission crossmember bolted in, but otherwise, it clears the stock low cab tunnel just fine.

Some color - still needs lots of work - wet sanding, but wanted to play with some paint.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

Latest pics :

I changed the paint - the metallic orange was too hard for me to paint (this is my first attempt at auto paint) - so i switched it up to a flat black, which I had always had in the back of my mind, and am very happy I switched to.

The gauge cluster is from Dakota Digital, again, extremely happy with this setup. I had a local shop in Denver build my driveshaft for me, 3 inch aluminum, perfect fit for the 700r4.

Glass is installed, just need doors, a bed and hood, and we're rolling.

I got the motor started, still working on timing and tuning, but I will say that I haven't heard a meaner motor on the street in a while. The cam is perfect. I put Flowmaster super 44's on, dumped at the rear of the cab.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

Also, - I used a champion radiator/fan setup, it fits well, haven't heated anything up yet, so I can't really review or state anything on performance there.

I used Brothers for the carpet and a couple of other parts - the carpet was great, it had the heel pad built in, they provided a large grommet for the high beam switch, and the carpet had some padding attached in spots, for much cheaper than lmc.

I used brake booster brackets from a 55 chevy - with a pair of extra washers and a plate to connect the bolts (the 55 doesnt fit the c10's bolt pattern, so it's only using 1 bolt on each side of the bracket.

I use the nickel copper brake lines in the front, very easy to hand bend.

For the radiator hoses, I found a set of heater/radiator hose from jegs, made by spectre. I kinda knew better than to buy spectre garbage, but I did anyway, and I regret it. Those "stainless braided" hoses are going bye-bye asap. Complete crap, and a few water droplets left over night = rust on the braid.

I used a lokar 10 inch floor shift (non cable) , it's a good height not to be in the way, but reachable.

The car will roll down the street as it is now, just needs doors (putting 67 style doors in, to replace the c20 thick doors), and a bed/taillights.

I shadow blacked the chrome pieces on the front, it goes really well with the flat black.

Oh, and i dynamat'ed the everloving piss out of the truck.

I'd love to stop by and look at the truck. I'll bring mine over as it was finished a few months back. Like what you're doing.

The truck looks great.

Is that the Lokar brake and gas pedal combo? I am contemplating buying it or just going to the junkyard for some late model parts.

Re: Racerx's 72 C20 to C10 Build Thread

It is the lokar gas and brake - i had to do a lot of searching before i found the brake pedal, and bought it with no pics - turned out fine.

It looks like Jegs has a combo - looks about right.
