Re: Battery draw issue

It is for a condenser. It is not critical, so don't worry about it for now.

Re: Battery draw issue

No, oddly enough it didn't fix it. The blue wire on the plug in to the alt is still hot.

Make sure the red and brown wires aren't swapped on the regulator plug.

Re: Battery draw issue

In order for blue to be hot... doesn't brown have to be hot first? Am I looking at this wrong?

Re: Battery draw issue

Why not just switch to a one wire alternator ? 10 gauge wire to battery positive from large terminal on alternator and you're done . Eliminates all of the old wiring and becomes a stand alone charging system. I've run these on many vehicles with great results. Most are 60 amp or more. A lot of the older vehicles didn't have that big of alternator from the factory. Lights are brighter, fan blows better, etc.

yes. you are looking at it correctly. As VV suggested someone may have made changes to support an internal setup.

This might be the way to go for the young man so he can enjoy the ride for the time he has it.

If he wants it I can build one for him for $40.00 + shipping 60 amps. Let me know. I would rather he found the problem, but it is another option.

Re: Battery draw issue

Well I'm ok with converting it, but I'll need help. I can get an alternator that's no problem, I just have no idea what to do. I'm tired of the stupid thing having this problem. I've got a flex plate on the way for it and I'd like to have this problem solved before I put it in so I can go back to daily driving. I just want to make sure this will solve the problem FOR SURE.

Re: Battery draw issue

Call me tomorrow with a volt meter at the ready and we will figure it out in 10 min. And that is because I like to talk a lot. 5 min if we just do it. I would hold off on the 1 wire till we go over the wires.

Re: Battery draw issue

There's so many things going on with the electronics in this truck it's ridiculous, my grandfather didn't know much about it, and I'm suspecting neither did my great uncle (whom my grandfather acquired the truck from)

Re: Battery draw issue

sorry to take this off topic. (1970 c20) My alternator is not grounded, the back of that alternator has the red single connection, and the blue and white together but no ground. Just got the truck and replaced the battery as tests showed if wasnt good. However my new battery just died after two days of driving.
