Re: How fast in your ol truck
I wrapped the speedo around till it pointed to the "H" in MPH on the bottom of the gauge. LOL...

Re: How fast in your ol truck
I hit 73 in my 69 4x4 and the doors and windows started to rattle, she was screaming like a banshee, and she was floating like crazy. As much as the old girl shoock and rattled I figured maybe if I got her to 88.8 she would take off like the delorian from the back to the future movies. Alas 75 was about all she had, her 40 year old 327 with a 4 speed and 4.56 gearing just wouldnt go any faster.

Re: How fast in your ol truck
Guys, Even though many trucks on the board have trailing arm suspensions these are not NASCAR racers. They are not very crashworthy! Too many things can go wrong when you are trying to see what it can do. At work I used to be able to take a car out and wind it as fast as it would go. It was a great feeling, but I was also safely on a 5 mile, one way track with speed restricted lanes. Open it up and head for the outer lane.
If you must, drive and use a data logger not your eyeballs on a speedo or GPS to see what an attained speed is. Do it in a safe controlled enviroment as well. http://miltonga.blogspot.com/2009/05...-in-wreck.html

Re: How fast in your ol truck
If we were looking to build something really fast, most of us are smart enough to start with a whole lot lighter vehicle.I'd have to see the 155 to believe it.There are lots of fast rides at Maxon, with lots more HP and less wieght than the OP and they're not running much over 150.
I've been 140 ish in a 69 GTX with a 440 6pack and 4speed and that's too dammed fast for the street or hiway.Someone else was driving and he's definitely better qualified than me to drive that fast.

Re: How fast in your ol truck
my 69 has a 292 inline an many, many miles, and a 4 on the floor granny tranny. i was on a nice, straight, and empty 4 lane stretch of freeway and opened her up. i got to about 93 mph, confirmed by one of those lil rader speed limit signs that tells you how fast your going. from what i could see, i was nearing 4k on my tach. i woulda kept it goin but i was gomming back into town. cops around here like to hide behind overpasses and on-ramps and the like, so i was satisfied with the 93.
i was also running on ported vacuum, with 235/75/r-15's, and a rochester monojet.

Re: How fast in your ol truck
Had mine to 130 in the 1/8th mile, ran 5.50 seconds. Stock front and rear suspension, replaced springs and shocks, and was on M/T radials. Felt rock steady. A few weeks ago went 1.24 60' and could not run but a 5.61 @121 due to a converter that was too tight. Paul Baxter

Re: How fast in your ol truck
Had Attempt/Mistake #2 as fast as it would go one time on a back road in my dumber days. 3.08 gear , 30 inch tires and a Turbo 400 behind 633 hp/666 lb ft. (and the speedometer said 0 the whole time, not hooked up). Not sure how fast that is though...

Re: How fast in your ol truck
It was High School and I was stupidly racing a buddy of mine in a full size Dodge pickup on the freeway. This was back when my Suburban was stock height on 31 in. tires and it had a mild 350 with a 700R4 and 3.07 gears. Got it up to 110 mph (on his much newer speedometer, not mine) before we had to slow to pass a Semi. Rode just fine at that speed though.

Re: How fast in your ol truck
Not comparing, he asked how fast had you been in your old truck. My truck is far from Swiss cheese, as the only fiberglass is the hood, only le an is rear window for the cage to pass through. It is still tagged, insured, and driven on the street legally. Of course not very far at one time, lol. Still has stock trailing arms in the rear as well. It does not sound as far fetched now, eh? cant see these trucks "liking" those speeds. plan to just cruise mine. I will keep the 200+mph passes limited to my hayabusa..........
