Here is the first patch panel I've ever welded onto a vehicle,,,,no more fuel fill hole. I'm going to miss all that fuel sloshing around behind the seat and the occasional "wiff" of fuel through the open window from the not so sealed gas cap!

Nice lookin patch work there, you use a homemade patch or buy one? I used one from Infanti machine on ebay, it worked out real nice.
These trucks were full of good ideas , gas tank behind the seat and a cowl vent that funnels water right down into the rockers. but they sure are the best looking trucks yet IMO. later and merry christmas!

I have a blaster that looks like that but a single pot setup. I cant seem to get it to flow right and my 33 gal crapsman compressor cant keep up. Blasting in general never fails to piss me off. glad to see you got it blasted off pretty well.

Hey 67c10, You've probably noticed that I'm doing my build where I work (pretty cool boss eh?). We have two industrial compressors hooked together, 160 psi and a lot of cfm of air. I think this helps these little blasters. I also have a car wash to do my blasting in which helps to control the mess (pretty sweet). The down side is I have to move my project in and out, I can't just leave it tore apart in one place.

Looking good Wade! Where did you get your gas filler patch? or did you make it? Yep, you have a pretty cool boss, so do I but I only work on my project small pieces at a time. I think they would freak if I showed up with the whole project. Keep the updates coming.

Oh yeah, I forgot to answer that question,,,I got the patch from LMC truck along with the door handle fill in patches. They did a nice job "curving" the patch to match the body curves.

Looks great! Going to be watching your progress.

Curious on final cost and MPG. I have a 67' that I want to make a daily driver (economically) but need 20+ MPG for it to be worth my while.

Hey jayssunm, Thanks for the interest, got any pics of your swb? feel free to post a couple here (share dude ).

I'm curious how the fuel economy will be also, the 5.3 is supposed to be really good on the mpg and the pick up body is lighter than the suv body and that should help the mpg also. I'm looking forward to reporting on what mpg I'm getting.

As far as the over all cost of the project, by leaning on some friends (local talent), and doing a lot of the work myself, I hope to keep it under 10k,,,,,If it went as high as 12k I'd still be happy with that,,,but the wife might not be.

More progress,,,The floor at the seam matched up perfectly to the rockers on the cab (real snug fit). But the factory floor brace's don't go all the way to the seam. there is a 3/4" "hangover" of the floor past the braces. This section seemed pretty strong but I thought it wouldn't hurt to beef-up this 3/4" hangover.

I welded a piece of 3/4" channel under the floor hangover and then put some struts down to some plates welded over the ends of the braces.

Excellent build. I considered placing a cab on a new style frame / drive train but didn't ( I studied your posts). In hind site a lot of issues I have would have been fixed.

Awesome build, and great work! The truck you started with was in really nice shape. That was a great find for sure! I also like the C2 dash idea. I love those dashes!

Awesome. I have seen an 87 Silverado on an 03 tahoe chassis before but this is just awesome. American ingenuity at its best. Its not what you buy its what you build keep up the awesome work!!

Been working on the connection between the header below the windshield and the firewall. I refer to this piece as the "8th wonder of the world". Mostly because everybody that sees it wonders what the heck it is. I moved the wiper motor over above evaporator, and used the Yukon motor (intermittent wipers!!).

In order to do all the cutting welding and fabricating, I had to build this cart. The floors where I work are painted and the bench top is Formica, so the cart was a "much needed" item. It cost me about $100 in steel and wheels.

I made the top removable,,,,,

,

so that the cart can be used to hold engines that are being "swapped" into cars and need to have parts put on them.

Speaking of welding,,, my friend (Phil) who sold me my welder stopped by to check out Tangerine. We decided that the used Millermatic 130 that he sold me was performing well but he made me a deal on a new millermatic 140. So I traded the 130 and a couple "C" notes for the 140.

,

The 140 is sssoooooo sweeeeeet!!! More adjustable heat range and smoother feed, my welds are starting to look better and better!
