its all right I still have a little time yet. $100 is a hell of good price. just make sure it aint all rotted out. it will cost you alot more to fix a bad one.

Yeah my new neighbor told me about it, he is the type that wheels and deals his way to stuff. And he's pretty good too he owns a Porsche and a Mercedes and he is only 20 years old he works at Moryde and O'Reillys and there is no way he could have bought those cars working there. Yeah it's the bed floor I'll be looking at the most.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I really think each parts store is going to be different were ever you go. I have gone to our local O'Riellys sense our NAPA went down the drain in customer service. Ive never had problems taking things back in that were not right. I had O'Riellys mix me some paint one time and I never thought to check the color to make sure it was right before they mixed it and the guy never showed me it and I took it back the next day and got a new batch mixed up without questions. Ive done so much business with them that they would rather eat the mess up than loose a costumer, cause they know people talk. Ive even been able to replace a part on warranty that I had for over a year without the recite, they where able to find it in their system and just got me the new part. I also know what people to talk to and which to stay away. I always go to one of the guys that builds these Chevy trucks as well that I have also traded parts with him.

I have never liked the local auto zone, because the guys that work their cant even point you to the right shelf for parts. They don't even seem to know the slightest thing about a vehicle either.

That's good to hear makes me more confident in buying from them thanks.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I recently used a fuel pressure regulator from oreillys and it failed in about a week and started spraying fuel everywhere. It was a cheap one I know but still. All they offered to do was give me another one and no refund. Why would I use it again? I'm not all about safety or anything but I do believe thats kind of a safety hazard. I was lucky it happened while I was standing there scraping my windshield off and smelled it, going down the highway with the headers nice and hot it could of been dangerous. Its not like they made the part though, it would have happened if I bought it somewhere else. Just the whole no refund thing kind of rubbed me the wrong way. As for the knowledge of employees, some are good some aren't, It always helps if you go in to any parts store with a part# in hand.

Good to hear you caught it early and not had something much worse happen, I hope the one buy me is not that strict on the returns.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I think I'll start out by buying something small from them to see how everything go's. My truck is not wanting to start easy so I'm going to buy a set of spark plugs for about $20 from them and take it from there. Thanks for the help everyone.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I usually go there if i need something right away or for a lifetime warranty, else I buy online. The quality aint so great, my new CS144 alt had a bearing fry and its less then a year old. They also had to special order the alt from out of town since they dont stock anything in this town, but its like that with autozone too.

Mine will probably be opposite from yours, I seem to be noticing a lot of this stuff with auto parts stores depends on the region to live in.

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

This is a very interesting thread and can't stand not giving my .02 worth.
In my small town we have a Napa, Carquest, Autozone and a Mom and Pop auto parts. Yes sir, an honest to goodness old timer that has been in the business many many years.
I try to give some of my business to the M&P just to keep them going as they have or can get those hard to find parts that none of the chains even know about. They still use the parts books, no computor for these Guys.
I usually buy most of my parts from Autozone for their warrenties. Most of their parts have either a 1 year or a lifetime warrenty. My personal stuff always get the lifetime warrenty as it is usually only a few bucks more, AND, you can return the defective part at any store without a receipt,,,Autozone logs your warrenty info on their computor system by your phone number. As long as you own that vehicle,,that part is under warrenty if you got the lifetime warrenty. They will even warrenty brake pads,,!! Try taking an electrical part back to Napa or Carquest,,,and they will point to the sign above their head (that you had not seen before) that clearly states. " ABSOLUTELY NO RETURNS ON ELECTRICAL PARTS" Only thing you can do is plop down some more money ,,,or go to Autozone.
I know some of the people at some of those stores do not know ****from wild honey, but here is what I do. Before I go to town, I will get on AZ website and find the part number, call the local store to check availability or see what store has one, then go from there.
I do not know what kind of warrenties O'reillys, Advanced have but I cannot argue with AZ's warrenties cause I have never had a problem there.

Blackbass I think it's great that you buy from the small companies to help keep them going. If O'Reillys doesn't end well I will definately be going back to Autozone where I usually go.

texas56 yeah I really want to work, espically to help fund my truck project. Is how does to O'Reilly employee discount work?

YOu get the jobber pricing on most things, plus they give you a charge account after you have been here for either 6 months or a year. The only thing they dont give us a discount on is oil because really is no mark up in it.

What exactly is a charge account? Like do you buy stuff and they take it from your paycheck later?

Re: O'Reilly Auto Parts Question

I used to work for them when they were known as checkers and i always thought there quality of parts was good and most of the guys i worked with had a good amount of parts or auto knowledge in different degrees. Now the store i worked at has a whole new crew there some of which are smart some of which dont know there ass from there elbow.Im kinda iffy on going to autozone just depends on how bad i need or want the parts in question.I would go back to work for them no questions asked if the chance presented itself.Take the job and use it as a platform to learn more about automotive and most of all as my high school auto teacher used to say mouth closed and ears open when it comes to learn from more experience parts guys.

Yeah agree 100% about listening, I'm going to be taking an Auto Tech class in my high school because we have a career center program.

I took the Career center auto tech class. It was good class. I learned quite a bit. I had a great teacher though. I learned how to do 3 angle valve jobs, knurling valve guilds (if anybody can remember that). I learned How to rebuild Alternators, starters, Distributors, Master Cylinders, calipers, wheels cylinders, and a lot of other stuff that people just buy now days including myself. front end Alignments, Brake jobs. you name it I think we would have done given the chance. I even took a engine building class during the summer. first engine I ever built in that class. (327 AMC) The classes were a great way to teach the basics and give a good foundation to build upon.

Yeah I have friends in it now and I was talking to them about the classes and they seemed perfect for what I want to go into. So scheduling is coming up in a couple of days soon so I will request auto tech. I also might not be staying in Elkhart after high school my dad got laid off today and wants to move south and open our own business. But regardless I will be taking the auto tech class.

Renegade I think not really sure he has been jumping from jobs lately its hard to keep up. It was a really shi##y situation, the type where the RV industry is getting slow and they have to lay off some workers, but there is the guy that sits around and is useless but he's related to the headhonchos so they lay off the actual hard workers like my dad. But we might move south and open our on business, so that will put me closer to rust free parts.

Thanks if we do it won't be until I'm out of high school. But it will be for the better anyway, and I hate to say it but if we moved I think I would miss Elkhart.

It's because I grew up here, hate the economy here, oh this might sound stupid but if we move we'll be opening a RV shop.

I grew up here to. I know what you mean about the economy. This whole area ebbs and flows with RV and Manufactured homes industries.

Its just me but I think Elkhart would be the best place to open a RV Shop. If thats what you want to do. I know there is lots of competition here. I know I go to most of them Big and small. But most everything you need is here. 95% of the suppliers, distributors, and transports are here. Plus the overwhelming number of Skilled labors that are without work such as your dad. That is why this is the RV capitol of the world. plus I think the way things are looking we will also have one of the biggest RV show in the country here (in the next few years) to show off your product and get dealers to buy. Like I said This is all just my opinion. but to build RV's anywhere else would just cost more and cut into profit margins.
