Re: Switching motors.. need advice
Sounds like a good plan. You're looks great, my truck needs a whole lot of work done to it. But one day it will look nice.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
My town has zero junkyards in it, but I'm looking at hopefully making a deal with a member on here that's in town.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
A small cam like a comp hyd. 262 will help it breathe better and have way more torque so won't have to try as hard, even the 307 is better than a 6cyl.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
Mine was from my dad, he bought it about 8 years ago used for work, it sat for 5 years, our wood guy was gonna buy it for $500, I offered to pay my dad $500 for it, but then he just gave it to me.

Suprisingly I already have many people wanting this truck, I almost got a '72 Chevelle and a '82 Cutlass.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
Yeah the only one that was really tempting me was the 1972 Chevelle those are getting hard to come by. But thought it through and knew I would regret it.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
Yeah I'm pretty sure the 307 will bolt right up to your transmission.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
I don't know you're going to accomplish much swapping out the 6 for an unknown(I know you said you trust the guy but he might not even know anything about the engine, he told you all the specs, 40K on a full rebuild? new ring and bearings 40K ago, and I never "trust" anyone when they're selling me something) 307. $400+ buys a lot of extra gas to get you to school the next year and a half, and that's if the 307 even gets better mileage. And if you want extra power, why go through a swap for the least possible extra power. Again that's assuming the 307 even has much more power. If the 6 isn't running right, maybe you should look into getting it running properly.

Re: Switching motors.. need advice
The clutch disc may be splined differently but the trans bolts to the engine the same. I have thrown a few parts like a mild cam (the 262 I mentioned) and performer intake with a small 625 Edelbrock carb and even roller tip rockers on a 307 and it helped a lot in the power department and fuel mileage actually increased from the stock 307, not a waste for sure, too many just have to have the 350, you will be happy with the 307 over the 6cyl.
