Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
The front end came in the bed of my truck so I never got to disassemble it. I was looking at some other gmc builds on here and some dont have them on the frame, did every truck rad support mount the same v8-v6 chevy to gm? If I need them does anyone have a scrap frame the could cut them off of and sell them to me? Thanks for your response

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
Got the front frame rails pretty well stripped down and cut out old motor mount crossmember, gotta say I am very impressed with the Eastwood versa cut plasma cutter as well as the 220v mig welder. I sat the corvette suspension between the rails to see what I'm in for and it dose not look that bad. Hopefully I can get it all mocked up and welded in this week.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
Thanks I hope to have the front end welded in this week. A little change of plan for the rear end, I got a 85 corvette complete rear end for $200 I couldn't pass it up. A little more work than the 9 inch but keeping it gm, I just have to pull it out of the car.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
I was not able to get much done this week or weekend due to playing lumberjack in my back yard. This week I will have the front end in and put some pictures up.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
what are your plans for that stock front axle? would you be willing to sell? providing of course the shipping cost would not be more than buying new.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
Ok well I'm going to try not making deadlines because I can't meet them, theres just not enough hours in the day. With that said I have made little progress stripping my frame. Here are some pictures of me getting rid of the bow in the frame for the old steering box.

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
I have made little progress but I do have the front suspension torn down and the frame notched to mock up before welding Im just waiting on the right upper control arm bolts before I can establish the perfect center line. I made a purchase today that Im real excited about. I got 1957 Cameo bed sides, 2 tailgates, tail light housings and lenses, bed strip and some other odds and ends!

Re: 57 GMC Big Window low budget build
Thanks I have some plans to modify the bed by leaning the tail gate forward and using 55 Belair tail lights/bumper
Thank you I was surprised to find them I think they will be a great addition to the truck |
