Don't tempt me buddy...

This thing is begging for a wheel change and some tender loving care. Could be an awesome truck with just a little effort.

If ochre is not your color, how about Hugger Orange?

Link

It will be interesting to see what this one goes for....

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

is it my inagination or is that a drum/drum master cylinder? Weren't disks standard on the front in 72? (i.e. they look like same size reservoirs front/back - compare to samrasmea's engine photo - and you can see the diff sized master cyl reservoir cap compared to this one). Just curious.

Btw, you all are a bad influence. I may have to take a day off work just to run up there and re-convince myself I can't afford this ol truck.... I fear I might fail though.

I hear ya, but 14 bids and it's gone up $3,000 since I posted. Those that think $12K is high for the ochre truck may want to recalibrate.

Call me a skeptic, but if someone held a gun to my head and said "is that a real Super?" - I'd probably say no. But I'd just be guessing. (i.e. the hugger & white one on ebay)

The guy holding the gun would have to guess too if he should pull the triger or not because with the info provided (pics) there is not support to guess either way. The only thing I see that is questionable is the out of place SUPER emblem. The owner said every piece of metal is original. Hmm, why is the super wrong then.

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

exactly - that's why i'd say no (the super emblem vs. all original metal comment). SPID not shown, however, if the SPID is as new looking as the truck, I'm not exactly trusting of those kinds of SPIDs unless the owner has the original saran wrapped somewhere. I'm not hardover on originality unless it's something that is claimed (and priced higher for originality). Having said that - that hugger n white truck is pretty darn sweet looking....

The SPID is worse than new, it's not there!! I have asked the seller for a photo of the Gross Weight/VIN plate. I'm betting it's not a real big block. Notice the Pre-72 alternator bracket.

"no" SPID? at ALL? Yeah, I'll rush right out and grab that one...
I think at that point it would behoove the seller to just fess up - not fooling anyone at that point.

Ha! Was wondering when someone would get cornfused like I was... Sorry, above discussion (lack of a spid) was a tangent, it's about this truck on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1972-...item3cc1062a29 not the sweet ol crusty ochre one that I started this whole mess with - sorry bout the confusion.

I'd have to agree - it's already a given it will be sold - and yes, if the high bidder is not spid savvy, he's gonna be quite pissed off when he discovers he's probably got a Custom Deluxe on roids. IF, however, he buys it eyes wide open, and he knows he's getting a truck built to look like a Super, then it's ok I guess.

But, even if the buyer knows what he's (not) getting, I still think it's "not ok" to advertise the truck as a Cheyenne Super (or as he calls it a "Super Cheyenne"... ) when it clearly is not - or at the very least, isn't "all original". Kinda bugs me, but I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. Glad I have you all to bounce my wild hair ideas off of before I go out and blow my hard earned dolares.

This thread is a perfect example on why one needs to do their homework before spending this type of money. Its a nice BB truck but if one wanted to buy a factory original BB truck and then he buys it and finds out it isn't.....

Food for thought...

Great thread all ...

Maybe its a sellers buddy bidding it up and that is why I dont shop for vehicles on EBay.

Re: I thought this was a pretty cool find (72 Cheyenne Super shortwide big block)....

Compared to this Black 71 0n Ebay the Ochre isn't so badly priced. I did a little research on the Orange and White Ebay one and of the 28 bids on it now 13 were made by one person and he bumped it from 12,000 up to 18,000 and he has only one feedback. As I said since Ebay went to not disclosing bidders location or identities ( and I undersatnd why) there is too much shill bidding for me.

Thanks to this forum I know exactly what to look for when I go look at a truck for sale, I didn't two years ago but just got lucky when I bought my big block. That being said if this truck was local to me it would probably be in my brother's shop but transport $$$$ is a deal breaker for us on this one....with the condition its in 12K is all the money, for us anyway.
