Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

Yes i got the tach harness with it. Im just trying to get it wired without having to run long lengths of wire, thats why i wanted to get power and ground from fuel gauge, also i want to know if there is a way i could test temp, and volt gauge outside of truck before i install them just to verify they work. The cluster is out of a 77 mine being a 79. i want to move over the brake warning light to the speedometer housing, since my truck is not 4wheel drive i could just swap over the plastics but which wires would have to be moved in the pin of harness?

Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

Does any one have any experience with a factory diesel tach on a 6.2 diesel engine?
How did the factory run the tach on the big diesels?

Same as what?
Diesels don't have ignition coils...

Anyone know if the factory tachs will run of the alternator?

You will need the Dakota Digital interface to turn the alternator signal into something usable for the gas tach.

Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

Man I need to find a complete gauge assembly out of a big truck, with the diesel tach, and the air pressure gauge on the left. that would be sweet in my cummins truck! need to figure out where they're all sitting. never see them anywhere.

I ordered the GM Sport Salvage one a few minutes ago. Hopefully it will work in the '91 cluster.

I was just saying that the factory Diesel tachs should be the same as gas tachs, as in they are eletrically operated and not mechanical and also 4K not 5K.

And yes I do realize that...

Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

The font pictured in the links matches almost perfect with the 85mph speedo but I haven't seen if they have the older font of the 100mph speedo's.

Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

The 80 canadian tach doesn't look any different then the original 80-87 US tachs, the only thing that looks different is the speedo. In fact it looks just like the 3rd LMC tach but without the redline.

I like the redline mark, just my prefrence, I was under the impression that 1980 was the last year for tach's?

Did they have them untill 1987?

Pretty accurate once you do the POT mod and sync it with a known good tach.

Re: 7K 73-87 tachs

They had them until 91 in the crew cabs and suburbans. Its just the 73-87 site didn't put pictures up after the 80 tach.
