COOL thread, likin all the old stuff, remember we used to pull each other out with a logging chain and rip half the front end off, almost no winchs and my 81 Cj8 Scrambler with 33" tires was loike a WOW truck, not now 38" tires are small. A bogger was a truck not a tire. Keep em coming.

How about Burbank Spring? They made the first lift kit I bought. Desert Dynamics made sidewinder-type winch,too. I wonder if they were the same thing as Hickey.
Hey,remember when Hooker made 4wd accessories and had fancy trucks in their ads? They made chrome roll bars,tube bumpers,and grille guards. They also made fiberglass body parts like hoods,flares,and roll pans for behind their bumpers. They made one for the front that was a chin spoiler. I only remember square body trucks. I always resented companies that only made stuff for the current models...which was the square body except for the earliest stuff,which was before a lot of things were made yet. Things really exploded in the '70s.

Stompers! I had a dozen of those. Darn near ran my parent's broke begging for AA batteries. Dad got wise and got me a bunch of rechargable nicd AA's and a charger so I'd stop raiding his supplies.

Armstrong Tru-Tracks - I bet I've had three sets of those on my truck during the late 70s and early 80s! They only lasted about 20,000 miles!

My dad had a Sidewinder winch on his Blazer. He sold it about 15 years ago and I almost installed it on my 72. Too bad - I wished I did - but I didn't want to cut the front bumper.

Thanks for the more ads,Rob. You may find that someone has saved those in their Ads & Lit pictures folder in a sub-folder titled "Off Road". I got my new printer/scanner out of the box and even read some of the instructions. Maybe sometime soon I'll get it plugged in. And,hopefully,figure out how to make it and my computer get acquainted. No promises...yet! Maybe I'll even be able to find the old magazines once I do. Yeah,I know...pretty lame. That's me all over. But,I am an honest man,as you can see.

My Blazer had this console in it when I bought it. I just thought it was a cheesy box somebody stuck in it...too bad it went to the scrap yard with the last load

The only things I remember from growing up in the 70's as a kid my Dad had a 71 GMC
4x4 it had 16" pizza cutters on it and then the CB craze came in when you'd sign off with your call letters This is the Virginia Dozer Man KBB09770, He worked for the state Highway Dept. Operated heavy equipment a D9 Dozer. And I remember Him buying a set of those SNOW MAGS with a fatter tire, who wee we were hard core 4 wheelers. He had that truck a many a years and USED it as a truck. It hauled a many loads of wood and all kinds of stuff...In the mid 80's my first 4x4 was a 74 Chevy Blazer with 4" lift with 33's on a 10" wheel with Gumbo Monster Mudder's that thing was a beast it would go anywhere.. Ok I'll quit now or I could go on and on..

Remember my first big truck a 71 3/4 ton Gmc, had 33" tires, back then they were "big" tires, funny, mud raced it and went every where, my last big truck a few months ago had 40" tires.

In 1976 I was in college at ASU in Tempe AZ. My wife is from El Paso, where we met, and we spent a lot of time cruising the back roads of the 4 corners region in our VW Van. It was tricked for the time, built 1200 cc engine. It had 15" Corvette Ralley wheels on the back with "huge" L78 tires to get a little more ground clearance and floatation over the desert sand. Inside was set up to hold our camping gear and had a back seat that folded down into a bed. Interior was wood paneled, outdoor carpet, 68 Camaro buckets, cassette deck with speakers and a CB radio.

In the winter we would make a trip up to N. AZ so we could play in the snow with our daughter. On one trip I shot the attahed picture of a 59 that had been converted to 4wd. I had decided to sell the VW and get an old truck, and knowing we would end up in Idaho in a couple of years, this became the inspiration picture for my 4wd conversion. It is a crappy picture (taken in 1977) but you can see some of the newer trucks in the background have Jackman's and big tires.

Next photo is my truck right after I converted it, only real "upgrade" that would fit this thread is the big mirrors, needed when the camper was on. Creature comforts were cassette deck, late 70's buckets and a CB. I put a 68 Chevelle gas tank where the spare went for extra off road gas capacity.

Last is my Dad's "bible", the Sears jeep parts catalog. I grew up with Jeeps in the 50's and 60's, he would buy them at surplus sales; paint, add chrome wheels, roll bar and resell them usually doubling his money. We had a M38A1 as our go to hunting and off road play rig, and a second CJ series. The M38 had a pto winch and stock 4 cylinder engine, but could keep up with and usually out climb the guys that had done v-6 or v-8 conversions because of the low end torque.

I remember the "mall crawler" 70's and early 80's fondly, along with the Disco Vettes of the era.

New find. Con-ferr rugged rack old school. I have 4 of these porthole style con-ferr racks but this one is the oldest style with openings all down all four sides. Has to be early 70's because the style changed.

Or, write down on duct tape and stick to top f core support. Doesn't hurt to open the hood from time to time anyway.

This may not be vintage to you guy, but this was early 90's (I was around 4). My dad did these hill climbs, his was the tan chevy in the first part of the video. 454 1980' Cheyenne, locked front.

I used grease pencil on the inside of the hood for recording oil changes, plug number and carb jetting. I remember Man-A-Fre, but thought they did stuff for all sorts of inline sixes.
