64 Build "The Titanic"

awesome man! I hope it all works out on the test drive, so you can put some miles on this beast. I started to post a day ago about painting the pipes black and natural rubber hoses. It looks a lot better.

I just found this via the TOTM contest. Gotta say that going through this build, when I got to the videos with the diesel in place & running, I could not stop smiling. Very different, very interesting, very cool. Good luck in TOTM, ya got my vote for sure!

Looking great. Good choice on the black intercooler pipes...and that seat turned out awesome!

Appreciate the vote! I was hoping entering would get a little more exposure to the build. My learning curve has been a bit of a roller coaster.

Thanks, I keep my eyes peeled for anything diesel related, Just in case this thing decided to take poop on me. Lots of Cummins out there but never another Hercules.

I will give an update also. Been driving the truck as much a possible. Everything has been going great. New turbo is very strong. Night and day difference. Not happy with the Sm465. Installed a new clutch and Throwout and its still ringing like crazy. Not sure if its just a noisy transmission or something is a skew internally. Shopping for a NV4500.

I plan on enjoying it all summer as is and collecting parts to bag it next winter. Found a SWB frame local I'm thinking about picking up. Planning to Z the front and build some sort of 4 link in the rear. Having the extra frame will allow me to continue driving the truck until the time comes to swap everything over.

Also have a set of wide whites on the way. Should have them by the weekend.

I took the truck to Lonestar Roundup Saturday. Almost a 500 mile round trip from Denton to Austin. The truck did great! No problems what so ever. I was finally able to get some MPG numbers. You wont believe me though.

First 100 miles the thing burned burned 3.4gal of Diesel! Thats almost 30mpg.

I averaged about 28 the whole way.

Pumped.

Figured Id update. Nothing new throughout the summer.

Back on subject, I've got just about everything I need to get this thing on the ground.

Went with the Air Lift AutoPilot V2. I was originally going to go with Accuair Switchspeed, but after some research it looks like the V2 is comparable to the E-Level, Pressure regulated vs Sensor with a cost close to the Switchspeed. Looks like a pretty sweet system to me.

I plan on doing a 3" Z up front. I am aware this isn't preferred method anymore, but with my cross member modifications I don't see a pancake happening. For the rear I plan to do like Jdoisher did on his farm truck.

So my Father is having a 1955 Dodge restored out at Hatfield Restorations, awesome guys and extremely talented. The truck was my Uncles who passed away of Cancer in his late 20s. The truck is being restored in his Honer.


While I was there we were talking about my little pickup and they mentioned they had a 63 sitting out back in their graveyard. I told them i had been searching for a swb frame and they offered the whole truck to me for free. Just come get it.

The next weekend.


It's very rough. The roof almost blew off on the way home. The back section could possibly be used to convert sbw to a bbw. The bed is great shape, inner fenders are good, lots of good parts.



I took everything off the 63 frame and put it on a 62 i had laying around.




Now that i have an extra frame i can get started with my Z and notching the rear without taking apart my truck.

Here is my Z, I went 3" up 1" forward.







I'm going to finish plating the notch this afternoon, and start to tear down the rear.

Progress pictures. The rear is just about done, just need to do some finish welding and fab up a Panhard bar. Still lots to do. I'm pulling the truck apart this week. I need to cup the lower control arms n swap the front cross member. Mock up the engine build transmember, ect ect... Here are the pics.

GMR- Thanks for the kind words. As you can see this thing won't be on the road for a while. Would enjoy meeting up one day.

Been really motivated lately. Finished up 90% of the welding on the Z and the notch. Everything's exactly where I want it. Took quit a few tacks, measuring, grinding and redoing to get it perfect but I'm happy.

Started needing pieces from the truck so I started pulling it apart earlier this week. It's down to the frame now, an power washed it this evening. Need to swap the front crossmember and rear end over to the other frame. Then I'll set the engine in and fab up a trans member and add a few more members to the rear section. I've cut out just about all of the factory ones.
