Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

I stopped by paint shop and he was painting my bumpers, I will be painting back side tomorrow and then bolting them on. Spent time glass beading my mag wheels and hope to have them mounted tomorrow. Painted inner fenders and bumper brackets today. I am still waiting for a shipment from LMC which will deliver the fuel sending unit and then I can start truck saturday morning. I grounded the bed , cab and radiator support andf fixed water leak on block. I think i will have it ready for car show on 22nd.

Cool Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

To bad about your Dad, mine passed away 7 years ago last Saturday, makes me think about all the stuff he missed in our lives, but then again he saw lots of cool stuff before. Truck color is a real stand out, nice. can't wait to see it done.

Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

I finished putting on mudflaps today and put another hour into buffing grill. Should have it all buffed out in another 2 hours. Tough getting 40 years of oxidation off that aluminum. I bought some seals for the door windows and the clips are not located in the right place. Most perplexing. Will have to call LMC and see what is wrong.I will finish grill thursday and install grill and front bumper and take truck for maiden voyage. Finally!! Cant wait.

Looking good! Sorry to hear about your Dad as well. By the way, where did you get those mirrors, or are they originals?

I just noticed I'm doing my dash just like yours. Was your truck factory like that, or was it a flat black?

It was factory orange just like you see it. I just picked up a tilt steering column for an automatic. Hoping I can convert it to my truck. it also has cruise and hoping I can make that work as well

It was a 2005 suburban. I do like them but they are a bit thicker than the factory seats so i am hoping to get the tilt wheel in to make mpore room. Want to build a console which will give me more storage in cab and maybe a place for some speakers.

Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

Im getting closer and closer. It is amazing just how much work is involved. I had no idea or concept of what it takes to complete a restoration. If it wasnt a labor of love I guess I would have considered giving up.

Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

I took truck out for its first cruise. It ran beautiful. Still have some air in the breaks. I went to a swap meet and found rear slider for ten bucks and a bench seat for fifteen. The buckets are pushing me too far forward. I like the way they feel but I have long legs and need the room. Took truck down to my moms and took her for a ride. We went over and saw my brother and he remembers my Dad and I driving into the yard in 1972. He was very emotional and it made for a great moment. I was years old and remember it vaguely. I do remember watching rudolph the red nose and Dad asking me iof I want to go get a new truck and the salesman helping me up into the truck. Any way I am very happy to be able to drive the truck and can't wait to get all the bugs out of it.

I have been trying to decide if I want to go this route with the seats, your concern with it pushing too far forward has me a little concerned. How tall are you? I don't want to shell out money for seats I won't use, I know these cabs are lacking leg room just a bit, and I don't want to be crowded either!

I am 6 feet tall. When I release the c;lutch my knee hits the steering wheel. I remember when it had a bench seat the truck fit me perfectly. I could stretch my legs and just barely touch floor. I will pull seats this week and slide in bench. I will let you know how it works out.

I've been worried about the same thing on mine. We'll see how it is if I ever get that far.

Re: 72 4x4,Time to finish it !

I had the copper tubing pull out on way home from work. Oil went everywhere. Put a plug in it and added 4 quarts of oil and got it home. Bummer. Glad whe all bugs are out of it , especially the engine.
