Help with rear suspension...

I would like to add a sway bar. I drove it to work this morning (only 3 miles), and it was a little sketchy. I think that would tighten it up some. Not sure how the crossmember is mounted. I'll look and post what I find.

Ok, I looked, and I'm not sure what you mean? It's bolted to the frame rails on the side, but I don't see anything in the front.

Sorry, that question was vague. There is a cross member in front of the steering linkage, it intentionally has a bend in it and is mounted by rivets on the top and bottom of the frame on each side. The bottom hole on each side is the rear location point for of the stock sway bar on these trucks. In one of your photos on the first page I didn’t see a mount, bolt or rivet, but thought there should have been something there b/c of the sway bar bushings on the lower A-arms. I was curious if the P.O. had removed the bracket and replaced the rivet w/ a bolt or not.

My sway bar was cheap and was a huge addition to the feel of my truck.

Got it. It's there, you can see where the sway bar had been there previously. the only issue I'm worried about, is that the crossmember appears to be from an 83-87, going by the idler arm. Not sure what sway bar to get.

from the early 60's to late 80's they are all the same shape and bolt right in with the proper brackets and bushings, look up ece they have it all for a good price. I would reccamend you get the 1 1/4" bar, it is the largest bar they made and it came stock on many 3/4 and 1 tons.

remember to look for a bar form the local bone yard to really save some $$
