Re: Saved A "Burb"
Bought the gas tank with sender and straps from LMC. 21gallon very reasonable on price. Straps a little different but went right in place.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
I have been putting some miles on the Burb on the weekends driving it and really enjoying it. I was going to try and find a late model 5.3 to swap but they want to much for them now , besides the engine runs really well and the fuel economy isn't that bad. I will find a 700R4 to swap in with some O/D. My daughter totaled her explorer so I removed the leather seat that were in very good condition and installed them. Rear seats fold down and driver seat is 6-way power adjustable. I have a new windshield for it and I will start on floor pan repairs now that I have the seats installed.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
Picked up 2 new tires today for $200.00 mounted and balanced. Finally puts me over $1k in cash for the "Burb" build. Getting hard to find good used 275/60s and my old tires were dry rotted badly. For as much as I drive it now was worth it.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
As much as I drive it on the weekends, as it progresses I can see myself changing from the "Antique" TX tag to the "Classic" TX tag so that it can be driven as a to/from work vehicle.

There will not be a Halloween show this year. He has to shut it down before then. Bummer.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
I love Suburbans! Yours is very motivating. Home Owner Associations suck....I'm in one and NONE of us knew we were even in it! I think we all got shafted but everyone is easy-going and they even voted me out of the road maintenance fee since my driveway doesn't border the road. I chip in with other things so they know I'm on the level.
Your thread is really encouraging. |

Re: Saved A "Burb"
I came across a good deal on a wrecked 1999 Silverado 5.3l / 4l60 for $800.00 . So Im going to do the 5.3l swap. I worked on fuel injected cars at a dealer for 15 years and I tune cars with HPtuners now so I should be able to keep the cost down. I have a guy that is going to rewire the harness so the PCM can go to the back and under dash. Going to change the intake and keep it clean under the hood. Hoping to sell the 350/350 complete eng/trans combo to offset most of the cost of the 5.3l truck. Hoping to get started on the burb in a few months after I finish another project. There will not be pics of tons of new parts on the floor this it is still a very low budget build.

We stayed about an hour then ate and headed back. Best part of the trip was getting lost in neighborhood in college station and 10 cars were following us lost too!

Re: Saved A "Burb"
Got a big weight brake for being a nitrous car in Outlaw 10.5 so trying to cut 300lbs out the car over the winter. Originally wanted to put a Diesel in the burb and tow this car on the open trailer.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
Been busy but making progress on the 5.3/4l60l swap. I was able to sell 350/350 eng and trans for 925.00 and only paid 800.00 for 5.3 truck . Bought some new adapter plates for eng mount that worked well. Going to try the frame mount fuel pump first. Traded the truck manifolds for some Camaro manifolds and had to do some minor fab work. Did the rewire on the harness myself relocating the harness to rear putting pcm behind glove box saved $400.00 thanks LT1swap for that info. Got the driveshaft shortened and back in so getting close to firing it up soon. Did aquire a new windshield in one of the earlier truck trades. Enlisted some help from some rookies to help me install and managed to crack it worse than the one I pulled out. Kind of lost track but still think im somewhere between $1500-2000 cash in Burb.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
Thanks guys, Harness looks intimidating but the website lays it out step by step. I have powered it up and hooked up my scan tool to the Data connector so far so good. Just need to fire it up.

Re: Saved A "Burb"
Close to being done with the 5.3/4l60 swap. After selling other engine buying eng mounts, fuel pump, Shorten driveshaft, Junkyard alternator, Hp tuner credits to disable VATS and other misc parts swap done for little less than $500.00. So far I like being able to start without pumping gas pedal, O/D is a big plus. Got Brave and took it on a long roadtest got on the Interstate blew off a trans cooler line, got it repaired and managed to lube everything underneath and one side of Burb. Used the stock radiator , coolant staying at 194 Deg F. Decided to stay with stock air box which keeps intake air cooler than HOT AIR intakes made out of metal.
