Shutt24, What size pipe did you use for the exhaust cut outs?

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I'll have to go back and measure but I think it is 4 inch. I cut an 1 inch piece off of it and welded it in. A 3 inch pipe will fit inside of it with plenty of room to spare.

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
Got a lot of work done this weekend.Repaired and painted the inner fender skirts. Made a new crossmember that holds the radiator. Replaced some rusted out metal in the rear shock crossmember. Finally got the pinion gear shaft out of the rear end housing. Took the frame to the sandblaster. Getting ready to order parts so I put the rear end back together. I will post some pics later. I would love to be able to put in a posi while I have the rear apart. If anyone has a used one for sale that fits a 3.73 gear ratio I would be interested. I know there are new ones out there but my budget will not allow that right now.

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I picked up my frame from the sandblaster on Friday afternoon and took it to my friends to prime and paint. I got my first lesson in throwing some paint. It turned out real nice. I will pick it up this week and start bolting on parts. Here are some pics it took with my phone Saturday.

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I removed this part from the frame and now I can not remember where it goes and I am ready to bolt it back on. Can someone tell me where it goes?

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I am pretty sure it came off one of the sides of the frame but I can not find any holes that will match up. It does have a slight curve and it was riveted. The assembly manual does not show the individual frame brackets.

Shutt24, I really wish I had some answers for your unanaswered questions, but I am learning everything as I go. Just wanted to give you some kudos for doing some real nice work. Hope the rest goes smoothly for you.

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
If I'm not mistaken, that goes on the bottom flange of the frame where the trailing arm crossmember connects to the frame rails. This is for reinforcement with that connection.
Edit: It could also be a reinforcement plate for the upper shock/spring crossmember.

Stripped all the undercoating off the bottom and finished installing the passenger side rocker panel.

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I can tell you without any doubt that there should be two of these, and they go on the underside of the frame, directly below the cross member that the trailing arms mount to. I took my cab off friday night, and saturday I was getting the frame ready to go to the blaster. When I turned the frame over I saw the plates, but couldn't remember who asked where they went. I have a picture, but my phone is... as my 17 year old daugter would say... "being dumb right now"

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
underside of cab looks very clean by the way, are the driver side rocker good to go, or are you replacing them as well?

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
Thanks for letting me know where those plates go, I'll to see if I can find the other one. When I was taking apart this truck some of the bolts had to be cut or ground off. I did not keep those so now when I go back to assemble I am having to guess on what size and thread bolts to use. The manuals I have do not list all the bolts or the sizes. My assembly manual does list some of the bolt part numbers but not the size. Is there a manual out there that list all the bolts, screws and fastners used to put this back together?
Right now I am bolting the engine crossmember back in and I need to know the size bolts for the 6 that bolt it to the bottom of the frame. There are 3 on each side and they have nuts. Then I need the same for the 4 that bolt it to the side of the frame, 2 on each side they have nuts. Then there are 4, 2 on each side that bolt through the side frame and screw into the crossmember. I really need bolt size and thread size for these 4. I used 7/16 x 1 grade 8 course thread for the nutted bolts just to hang it. I did a search and did not find anything helpfull one here. Thanks. |

Re: 1966 C10 Fleetside Project
I think the problem with my phone is that the 32GB micro SD card is just about full, and it gets hung up when I connect to the PC. Anyhow, here is the picture, you prob don't need it now, but here it is anyway
