Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

There are probably a lot of one of a kind trucks out there if they were ordered because you could pick and chose what you wanted. The high end ones would be more rare and they would be 71's and 72's I would think.

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

I searched for about three years, subscribed to eBay, the ads here, and searched craigslist and hemmings and carsonline weekly for that period. There were lots of potentials, but no actuals. The RenoKeene (sorry, don't know your name!) truck was the only one in that time that looked legit.

I -did- find a number of BBC SG shortbox trucks, but none that panned out as being originally equipped. Lots of interesting stories (oh, it 'had' a 402 but the dealer blew it up and put a 454 in it, that kind of thing) but no truck with the correct block code and date and SPID.

GM Canada (Vintage Vehicle Services) would know exactly how many were sold in Canada, but that's only about 1/10th the market size of the US, so probably not representative for rare combinations.

I even thought about shortening my BBC SG Longhorn, but then had a revelation: what the "market" wants is sport trucks (ie: shortbox, car bumpers, tiny mirrors, etc) but in reality a truck is a really crappy sports car. I want a truck... I'm fortunate enough to have the ubiquitous BBC '69 Camaro and an LS7 Vette, so why do I need a sport truck? So I'll build a real truck. But that's me, and I realize a longhorn BBC SG is probably worth 1/2 what a shortbox would be.

All that said, if someone does find a real one, please restore it original. Chalk marks, proper stickers (not the evil Invader 400 stickets from a Sprint), spring tags, the works. The world needs one factory-original BBC SG SB out there!

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

Mine does have the original block with proper casting dates, casting number, & ID Stamp, and agrees with the SPID & Build sheet. But my truck had aftermarket valve covers when I got it, when I put the factory style covers back on during the resto I did put on a "Invader 400" sticker based on input & pics from other board members here. Still have not redone the chaulk marks on the firewall. Did spend quite a few dollars to have the SPID label & the "Mark of Excellence" sticker on the door remade exactly like the originals. So what stickers are correct for the BBC in these trucks?? Any info on the proper stickers/tags and where they go would be nice.

Special-K mentioned GVW listed on the door tag as a clue for a BB truck. What are the weights for comparison?

I'd like to have it,but not for $6,500 in that condition. Everything besides the floor shifter seems original? They don't know much. The side trim is removed and holes have been filled,so paint was done, too. If that truck's a survivor, they all are. It's a C1500,Chevys are C10s.

Don't really see many Cheyenne Supers either. You've got something special enough. Being a Sierra Grande does kick it up a notch. A special high-end truck should be kept as close to stock as possible. I have hot rid blood but I have enough reserve to be discrete with something like this.

This truck has been for sale over a year this is why. I have looked at it in person I have noticed the truck has several non original parts other than what they say. I would still like to have it but its price is pretty up there for all it needs

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

Yeah,I always want to know how trim holes get filled when I see one like that...and wonder what other body work is in it. To me,a survivor is a truck that you can see everything as it was from day-1. That's what I like to find and this one ain't it. It's a shortbed and it's cool it is a Sierra. I could do something with it,for sure

Based on what Tim states and... If you zoom in and squint real hard at this pic from the CL ad it states the GVW is 5450 ?? (first line under bold "general motors...") so I think that one may be.

Re: SWB BBC Sierra Grandes?

Also found this info in an earlier post about GVW. Here is a link and a pic of a chart of CVGVWR, Combined meaning total load rating (trailer etc) where different values were assigned based upon engine.

My truck being a 67 only has the small vin plate with a single GVW rating where later trucks had a larger plate with more specific load ratings. Second pic is a later truck with more detailed ratings (6cyl C20 tag?) CVGVWR=7500
