I ordered the driveshaft a few days ago but can't get the body on until the wheels arrive. I have the body at my parents farm where there is a John Deere with a hay fork to assist with the cab.

Hoping things go rather quickly when I get my wheels!

Just found out wheels are on the way! Only took a few months, so I ordered tires as well.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

Wheels and tires arrived. I'll have to get them mounted Thursday once I get back from Detroit. I also put some LED headlights (same that would fit my 65) on my CJ7. They totally blow the halogen leadlights out of the water and am thinking of buying them for my 65.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

I like the headlights!
I could not help but notice on the back of the box though, that it lists "Military Grade Die Cast Aluminum"..........soooooooo..... that must mean it was made by the lowest bidder, and will take a ton of tax payer money to keep up??

Too bad more civilians dont realize the amount of junk the Military ends up buying.
Sorry if that sounds sour, but in my head it is really funny !!

Nice looking wheels

The last time I looked those headlights were $200........each

I hope they aren't obnoxiously bright for oncoming drivers

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

Pro touring.... I'm trying. Just left the army in feb and took a job in Michigan. Left my truck at a buddy's in Texas and finished putting a new motor and trans in it. Didn't want to get stuck on the side of the road along the way.

As for the lights, ya they were pricy but they are much brighter than stock but not too bright for oncoming drivers. I hate those rice burners with HIDs that make you squint as they head toward you.

I have to go back to Texas to pick up my project so I can finish or at least get the body on it. I really miss working on it!

Yeah, I ride the high beams for them in response.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

Long story and no. I installed a new motor in my 66 for the HRPT and after 30 miles it threw a push rod.... Not happy but the machine shop that sold me the motor was great. Had a rocker arm stud come loose and push out letting havoc take its place.

I had to step away for awhile and focus on other things. Left the Army and went to work for a large company. Just now getting back to everything and seeing where I left off on the 65.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

Long story.... threw a rod after 30 miles on the way to Dallas from Killeen. Not happy as a rocker arm stud came out of the head causing havoc. Figures this would happen as I didn't take the time to put a few hundred miles on the motor before parking.

The machine shop was great though and fixed everything for free. Helps when your family knows the owner really well. Will see about this years maybe.

I had to step away for a while and focus on work. Spent some time this weekend with the 65 and body. Will post some pics but need some help on the fuel rail piece.

Cab going on today. Didn't think the 4L80e would fit well and its close. Will have to tie in the trans crossmember and see what room is left in the trans tunnel.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

More pics after getting the body set on the frame. I have to buy the bed mounts and radiator support as I can't find the ones I had bought before I moved. Started on the wiring harness and its not too bad to install since everything is labeled. Will try to finish that in two weeks along with some other stuff.

Re: 1965 SWB BBW Build

The old grill that came with the truck had some other things fall on it and put a dent. I go most of it out but should work just fine. Have to order some convoluted tubing to finish the wiring harness with and secure it to the frame. This will be the next big project that I have in a few weeks.

Computer came with the engine/trans combo that I picked up from a salvage yard (everything from the same 2009 chevy van). The harness I chose was one from speartech and have heard nothing but good things about. They'll sell you a computer but they ain't cheap!

If you haven't bought a chassis harness yet then check out American Auto Wire as they'll build a harness that has all the extra stuff you need for an LS motor to connect into. Just let them know what you need or plan to run and be as detailed as possible. My harness is going in pretty easy as everything is labeled (every wire) and is so easy to read.

Haven't mounted mine yet. I think it'll be in the engine compartment where everything is easy to get to. Should cross that bridge at the end of next month.
