Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Feels good to get far enough along to start it!!
Adds more motivation to get the rest done.

Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Yes and No.
I have been super busy with welding jobs so I havent been able to do much. I have got alot of little items (punch list) things done, I plan on fabricating a flatbed for it this weekend. I will post some updated pictures this weekend hopefully. Im speculating that I have about 40hr left to put into it before Im at a point where I can drive it, but that 40hrs will be hard to find right now. |

Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Here you go... Wished I had got more done, but that is what I will be saying on my death bed.... Still have to finish the hitch, headache rack, Front and rear panel of the bed.
Picked up a 10,000 LB ramsey pto winch and pto the other day, pto is a muncie tg series that runs off the transfer case, might be tight will all the stuff in the way, might have to have the pto drive a hyd pump and put a hyd motor on the winch. Things left to do. (1) dynamat the interior (2) new floor mat (3) install vintage air system (4) level rear supension (5) stuff Im sure that will pop up along the way |

Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Finishing up a big welding job this weekend, hoping that I will have a little extra time now... Nobody wants it on the road more than I do! Thanks for the comments

Haha! That's funny that is almost identical to what I had in mind for my front bumper...... Wish I lived closer... I'd like a test drive

Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Well not a lot to report this week.... I did pick up some Stewart Warner deluxe gauges for the dash and leveled the rear axle so it sits nicely now... Picked up another big welding job so short on time....oh and yesterday I think I picked up the flu! I'll get some pics up this week when I can sit upright ... For now it's NyQuil and dream about my repairs

fuel MPG
I average 24 combined MPG consistently. I have got as high as 30 on a trip, but that's not an average, and as low as 16 towing.
The 4 does about 20% better on fuel than the 6 but a heavy work truck needs a 6, a 4 is ok for a toy or light truck. when I built this truck in 2000 6bt were hard to find and cost $5000 plus the 4bt was a deal at $3500 with 270 hours on a rebuild. I still had to get an adapter and flywheel as well as fan and acc. though so I spent close to what a 6 cost than. here are some pics from when i built it in 2000 ![]() ![]() ![]() sorry for the high jack ky-donzi

Re: 61 GMC 4x4 1ton build
Well it is about done, I still have on my punch list to finish the headache rack behind the cab, finish the PTO winch install, finish the A/C install (got to add condenser and dryer) and finish alittle wiring in places.
