Re: Shorty™
The Chrome Fairy made a delivery yesterday afternoon.
Got a little interference between the cover and the EGR valve on the pass side, but I think a doubled-up EGR spacer will cure that. |

Re: Shorty™
Well...I found a standard sized lid, not a tall.
I have a few of those tall ones laying around. I may send them both out to get chromed. The short one is fine for this truck, but I'd really like to run a chrome tall one on my dually. |

Re: Shorty™
Man…I gotta get this thing wrapped up. I miss my Shorty.
Basically all that’s left to do is adjust the valves, then I can break it in. Just haven’t had the time to do it yet. Need to clear out a block of time and just knock the damn thing out. |

Re: Shorty™
Dude, I'm pumped. There’s something about a fresh engine. It’s just a little 305, but with the cam, dual plane intake, HO heads and mid-length headers, it should scoot along pretty good and the 700R will help with the fuel mileage numbers. The only thing I’m not thrilled about is the CCC Quad, but it’ll have to do for now.
Gonna haul it over to RFMaster’s place for the break in, that way if there’s any issues, we can address them while the engine is still out of the truck. |

Re: Shorty™
Thanks.
I’m anxious to find out what kind of MPGs I’ll be knocking down, too. I’ve heard the Monte Carlo/Camaro crowd claim anywhere from 17mpg to 25mpg with similar engine builds. Granted, the shortbeds are 5-600lbs heavier than the MCs and Camaros, but I’m hoping to get somewhere in that range. Honestly, I’d be thrilled to see 20-21. Anything better than that is just gravy. |

Re: Shorty™
What gear ratio do you have in the rear? That makes a difference too.

Re: Shorty™
Very nice start. Very nice choice on motor build. Should do exactly what you want it to! Good luck on those mpg numbers.

Re: Shorty™
Figured while the truck was down, I'd pull the bed to address some of the issues on the back end.
The flip kit has been half-assed since I bought it. I did a few "band-aid" repairs when I rebuilt the front end, but now seemed like a great time to fix it the right way. The PO had installed what I assume to be some kind of universal flip kit brackets. The problem is, they had way too much slop built into them, which allowed the axle to become cockeyed creating a dog-track scenario. I had about 3/4"-1" of wheelbase difference between the driver and passenger side. Secondly, the brackets were too "tall". So much so, that the pressure placed on the underside of the factory saddle was causing the welds to fail, and the factory saddles were being "pressed" off. Third, the flip kit brackets were bent to hell, thus, exacerbating the alignment issue. Picked up some axle saddles at the local speed shop and went at it this afternoon. Still need to weld them to the axle tubes, but I've managed to correct all the alignment issues. Plus, it dropped the rear of the truck and other 1/2" |

Re: Shorty™
Been doing a lot of work to this thing lately. Canned the CCC Quad and went w/ TBI. Now it's just a matter of working out all the "fun" little details with such a conversion.
...and I picked up a set of 20s. Sneaky peeky... |

Re: Shorty™
Just read through your build, I'm excited to see what kind of mpg you get out of your engine plus the 20" are a nice touch.
