Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Keep us all in the loop. We are quite the crew for living vicariously through guys that do this kind of thing. Some day I would like to do it with mine.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Sooo... Got to st Louis and drove around to parts store. The p.o. Didn't have door keys so we were winging it without locking ol Caroline. Believe it or not we found new tumblers for 12 bucks ( thanks locdoc for the tip) and installed this morning just for piece of mind. Also bought the door handle clip tool and it's the best 5 bucks I have spent in a long time. Caroline is purring like a tiger on heat and everything is copacetic. Currently drinking a beer at the anheisbush brewery and planing the rest of the day. Going for a steak dinner at mike Shannon's restaurant and then catch a ball game.
I have got to get a spare... We're running with out one so were going to a junk yard and finding a wheel an then a tire.... Cheap insurance right? Well off to a pawn shop to look at guns and then the rest that I mentioned already. Next stop is Kansas city so indeed you boys to recommend some BBQ spots!! Thanks for keeping up with us and if I don't call you is because we have a time line. Godspeed! Mo Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Quick update... When in saint Louis definetley stop by papi's smokehouse for the best to ribs I have ever tasted... Succulent! There will probably be a line out the door when you come but it is well worth it... In talking to one of the four owners and him inquiering about our origin... He decided to pull out 2 tickets and a VIP pass to see the game tonite... Unbelievable! Section 254 row 2 seats 7 and 8... Watch the game and look for the only two guys not wearing red. The backdrop to the stadium is incredible with the arch as the center piece. What an awsome day.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Guys, sounds like a great trip so far.
Not sure how you are going home, but if you do go through Colorado, do take the time to go to Gateway, Colorado. It's in the SW coroner of the state. One of the greatest car drives I've ever taken. Took it this summer in my C6 Vette. Also, the Gateway car museum is there.http://www.gatewayautomuseum.com/ ![]()

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Well gents we have made it to Kansas and past that theres not much to look at to my knowledge until Denver. Tony and I decided to push all night and get to the rockies ASAP! We want some outdoor sleeping and camping so I think that's a decent plan. If we end up beat up well pull over and sleep for a while. To all the complements on Caroline, thank you! She is a fine truck and has been good to us. If anyone can enlighten me on uploading photos from my iPhone I would love to share or we can wait til I get home. Thanks to all for jumping in the middle seat with us and sharing this once in a lifetime experience.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
I'm an Android guy....But all my family has sipped at the Cool Aid cup of iPhone. There are probably simpler ways...(I know I can share with one push of the button on the Galaxy S3).
But you sign on to the Forum with your phone's browser...Which I suppose you are doing any way to make these posts.....Then in the Safafi browser on the iPhone, post pics that you have in your photo gallery (iPictures, Pictures, whatever) just like you do on your home computer. Now, if you are posting from a laptop at night, just e-mail the pics to yourself from your phone when you shoot 'em, and post them to the Forum in the evening. If you get to Denver or any place with a Verizon/ATT, or whatever your carrier is, and you have "keystroke issues", they'll be happy to line it out for you. I, for one, would be most appreciative of flicks during the progress. No pressure. But some of us are stuck at home while you get to do this tasty trip! ![]()

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Ok mo, I'm gonna try and do a step by step.
1st. Download photobucket 2nd. Once installed. Upload media. 3rd. You will have the choice of either an existing pic or taking one there in real time. Existing pics will take you to your photo roll. 4th. Select a pic. Let it do it's thing. 5th. Select photos. Tap on photo and on the bottom right of the photo selected there is a round circle with an I in it. Click it and select the IMG. It is the last of the list of 4. Click IMG and it will ask to copy. 6th. Paste in message body with text. Here are some pics that may help.. Ps great truck!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Ok, excellent thanks j ripper!
Well we arrived pretty beat down to the the town of Hays, Kansas and had to get a bed to sleep on. Not much glamour on this stretch of the trip. We had been running with out a spare tire and it had been bugging us. Back in st Louis we found a scrap yard and found a steelie for 15 bucks and later in Missouri we found a used tire for free. Much to my surprise and dismay, no one in Missouri want to mount the tire for us which was a bummer. Damn lawyers! Well we got to Hays and decided to stop at ol Walmart. Walmart hooked us up! The mounted, balanced, and re stemmed our wheel for 12 bucks. The boys were gear heads all the way and ended up chatting about Caroline for an hour. We also bought some earplugs and cots because our camping days are about to begin. Fishing rods should be coming out soon! Something to note is that whenever people find out about the trip they instantly go into a " I wish I could go with you guys" mode. I tell them lets go! But no one pulls the trigger. Get busy living! Is what I say. More to come and I think some of the most beautiful scenery is coming our way. Cheers fellas! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Life is as you live it. I'm a firm believer man ..
If you guys had this to do over again, would you do it? I'm betting, no question .. absolutely. Life's too short to pay $40k for a new truck then loose your ass as soon as you drive it off the lot. Pay taxes on it, $500 in dealer fees then when it comes time for a new one the 'depreciation' is just accepted nowadays as the norm. I just like the idea of not only feeling like you're investing into something you're eventually going to get some of the money back, or even make money on it (?) .. and there's just something about these old trucks. It takes you back to the time when life was just a bit more simple. No cell phones, navigation, manual shift (I love a 3OTT) etc. I'd bet this drive will be remembered for a lifetime. What a cool trip, and I'd say it's taken the friendship to another level too. Cant wait to see the pics.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Just a quick note...so many of of you know that caroline was factory equipped with a speed warning sensor. Well tony and I got to talking and lost track of our speed and next thing you know we hear a buzzing sound!!! Ha ha the buzzer still works! Awsome!!! It's the little things about our trucks that make us tic. Thought you guys would enjoy this.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Made some real headway and got down into the colorado mountains. We drove from Denver in bumper to bumper traffic and that really sucked! However, it gave me even more confidence in Caroline's ability to handle any situation. We got to a place called Pine Junction and got a quick bite. The local folk were very nice and shared a little secret with us. We ended up camping rigt next to a good flowing stream and got the cots set up, the fire going and we cracked a couple of coldies and chatted about the great people and the awsome places we have seen so far.
Colorado has been my personal favorite so far. Hwy 285 is nice to drive in a classic truck but a motorcycle may do it better justice. We're heading to Durango CO and I wish I had a mountain bike with me because the trails here are legendary. We are set to do more camping near Mesa verde and then head to the Grand Canyon and Sedona tomorrow. Please post anything you may think we need to check out it keeps us motivated. Thanks for tuning in. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Sounds like you are having a blast. I70 thru Missouri and Kansas isn't much to see. If I would have been home, instead of Afghanistan, I would have invited you stop by my house in Kansas. Pretty good fishing spots where I am at. Enjoy your adventure.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
Oak Creek in Sedona has some hogs in it if you are going to stop and drop a line...if passing through Flagstaff, Diablo Burger is top notch for a bite, and Flag Brewery to wet your whistle.

Re: 1968 CST SWB anniversary gold
First I want to thank guys like GMCJoe for protecting our country and allowing guys like me the freedom to do a journey like this. Thank you for serving your country.
Next, a quick recap of the goings on of yesterday. We ended up in Durango co and found Carvers brewery and had a couple of ipa's and a chipotle bell pepper and stake sandwich that was insanely good. We walked around a bit and found a great vibe in town! Friendly and healthy people. Lots of mountain bikes everywhere. We were told to head to la plata creek for good camping and found it to be extraordinaire. The aspen trees are starting to change colors and get a beautiful gold hew that makes them pop! We burned a lot of wood and almost an 18 pack and despite the low temps the aleeping bag and the fire kept us cozy. Durango gets two thumbs way up in our book. Well be heading to Mesa verde for some ancient history on the lost world of the Anasazi. Stay tuned. Posted via Mobile Device |
