Well I just went to the Missouri section and saw that...so YES for sure! That's a good way to get me to finish the paint and lowering too. Now I just have to figure out if I'll be bringing 1,2 or 3 trucks!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Quick update. I finally made some time to go finish the body work I started a couple of months ago. I was trying not to interfere with the shop's regular work, and we knocked it out in a few hours on a Saturday morning. Next stop is wheel arch and side moldings, then she gets LOW.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Thanks!

I think this truck was meant to be a daily driver. I don't want to jinx it, but I just jump in and go with no worries every single day, even long trips. If she keeps it up this might just become a long term relationship.

My only complaint is the mileage, which is right at 12. It doesn't help my anxiety when your draining a 16 gallon tank the needle moves at lightning speed. I know that TBI isn't the most efficient system, but it should be closer to 15 like every other TBI truck I've owned. I've replaced the fuel filter, next will be plugs/wires/cap and a throttle body rebuild with clean injectors. It runs so dang smooth and the engine is so clean it might just be the way she is though. You can't have it all!

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Thanks! I ordered the wheel arch moldings and side trim last week. I keep wanting to dive into the lowering, but with brakes in need of work and a possible ball joint replacement it's going to be a chore. I'm getting too old to do this stuff on the floor!

Thanks!

I received a 32' roll of molding from LMC and the wheel arch moldings from Rock Auto. These are brand new GM and only cost $7-8 each! I couldn't believe the box they shipped in Soon as we get some decent weather I'll slam this stuff on.

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

I think I'm going to do a how-to on the body side molding. I bought a 32' roll from LMC, cut-to-fit. I'm very happy with how it turned out. The two key things are layout method and the cutting tool. For layout I used a string line from the top of the rear corner molding to the front marker light. To keep it in place and tight to the contours, I placed some tape every so often. I had no trouble butting the molding right to the bottom of the tight/taped string line and getting it all very straight. You need an "anvil" type cutter, side cutters won't work right. I almost bought a tool, then I remembered that I have a nice set of pruners that have an anvil head. They were slightly awkward, but for a one time job worked just fine...nearly perfect cuts.

Thanks ya'll. The very next thing will be lowering, then solid rear glass followed by a sport bumper. As you can see, I don't move real fast though!

Great job on the moulding install.
I always wondered how people got their trim on so straight.

Thanks Keith! Now for the altitude adjustment...I've been putting it off because I know I need new rotors, and I might as well do the balljoints, and, and...

So what are the plans on the drop? Static only? Bags?

Re: Project "Yetti" 87 GMC short bed

Just simple and cheap, the usual old static drop; flip kit and shock relocators, 2.5" spindles and one coil cut for about a 5/6. I did pick up a factory sway bar and I also have a beefy CPP sway bar. I'll use the beefy one if it fits ok, but it interfered with my drag link on the '71 so I'm not banking on it.

I'd LOVE to do a Porterbuilt front with the trailing arm conversion rear in coil overs all around though!

Can you provide the part numbers for the wheel arch trim please. I can't seem to find it on RockAuto's site. I need to order some for my 85. Did these come with new screws too? Thanks. I am a big fan of the white short beds. Too few of them out there.
