I would like to do one for GMC but I would have to recreate the text as all the logos I have found are only 72 dpi and aren't good enough print quality. I'm looking into this but want to get a few other things straightened out with the bowtie first. So all I can say is it is right now it's in my plans, but I'm not sure when it will happen.

I can remove the bowtie altogether and offer just a plain gauge as well. I've considered doing this when I go the ebay route so I don't have to face any licensing issues with the bowtie trademark. I don't want any trouble with legality.
Before I decide to remove the bowtie though, I'm writing a letter to the legal counsel chief of staff to see if he will grant me permission without going through the expense of licensing.

I maybe a little paranoid, but if I'm going to do this, I want to do it right without any legal complications.

I would actually appreciate feedback from everyone here as to whether they think these would still be as popular if the bowtie were removed eventually. And if you think I'm being overly paranoid and have nothing to worry about selling these on ebay with the bowtie logo.

Legal Aspects

Heather youve really thought this thing out.And I imagine that
using the bowtie may be a hassel ($$$),but I think that just the
White overlays should sell just as well.I mean dang the original
gauges didnt have a bowtie! The overlay itself is awsome of course this is my opinon. At certainly sounds as though you are on the right track though. If you do have to pay to use the bowtie and im not sure if you would it knock the hell out of your profit margin which i would guess youre not making enough right now for them. But its better to be safe than sorry.good luck and let us know ok.

Heather,

I think the overlays look awsome, however, I think just plain white would look better. Maybe even with a bowtie on just the speedo and fuel guage. My two pesos.

Heather, Im very interested in the overlays for my GMC, I have a question.
Is it possible to make the overlays in silver ?
I have the billet aluminum cover on my dash & a Autometer Silver Sport comp tach & think silver face gauges would be sharp. GMC logos would be cool to. John

Heather,
What a beautiful thing you have done, your overlays are great.
Good Luck on you new enterprise. Have you thought about doing them in black? With a gold bowtie, wooo weeeeee
Thats what I;m talking about. The white ones are awesome, would just look weird in my all black interior.
Anyway,
Good Luck

Hey guys,

I'd love to do some custom work. I'm working with someone right now that does all my printing so they kind of tell me what they can or can't do. I'll check with them to see what they can do. I'd love to be able to meet everyone's needs.
Doing them custom is a way I can get around the trademark issue because the buyer is then requesting the logo and is therefore responsible for any reaction from the trademark owner. At least this is what I've been told.
I'll check it out and now that I'm almost done with school...one more week left...I'm actually getting more motivation to pick this project back up

I'm going to put a factory tach cluster in my 85, I may be interested in a set of those, I like the bow-tie in the face like that. But, you may have issues with licensing, I wouldn't really risk the possibilty of a law-suit. But before you remove it I want a set with the bow-tie on them. Or maybe you should see if you can get permission or if you just need to add a mark at the end of it or something to show its registered and trademarked, but that would kinda keep it from looking nice and clean.

Heather can you change the numbers on the spedo or do they have to be the factory numbers. I was wondering because if you can change them it is a simple way to adjust my speed without changing the gear in the transfer case to compensate my larger tires. Ex. 45 to 54, 50 to 60, 55 to 66 ect. ect.. If you can I will definatly get a set especially if you can put the bowtie on them.

Thanks

I understand where you're coming from, but this is a liablility and if you were to get a ticket because I screwed up the number placements on your gauges, and giving you an incorrect reading, I'd feel really bad and would ultimately be responsible.

All number placements and markings need to stay factory. However, I'm still working on making more custom gauges available to everyone and would really like to make that happen.

just a thought- you could make a custom tach overlay for a later model or aftermarket tach (since they usually goto 8K rpm or higher) that would (retro)fit into the stock location. Now THATS a good idea! We were just talking about this on one of the tach threads a few weeks ago..

I'll need to know more details. When we talk on AIM again you can tell me exactly what you have in mind. Or if it's going to be a while until we can chat, you can PM me
