Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Thanks, I had the AC shop crimp the Vintage Air hoses onto a stock compressor fitting.

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Thanks, I took about 400 pictures mainly of the tear down and some of build up. These are the high lights. Any particular area you would like to see??

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Here’s a quick update. I drive it every day, has about 12K miles now. All’s well. I’ve done a few things. Gaylord tonneau cover was a great addition. Seems almost every truck I see at shows and in the mags have hounds tooth now so I’m taking the hounds tooth buckets out and replacing them with my spare set of vinyl buckets. Bummer as I had the hounds tooth covers by Truck Seats and new foam from Pickup Trucks, top notch for sure. I had a set of seat belts redone by Ssnake Oyl, they came out great. Hidden hitch fits great with the exhaust and spare tire in place.
I got the engine dyno’ed in June of last year, rear wheel HP 352 @ 4,929 and TRQ 393 @ 3,644. It’s a blast to drive. Several passes down the quarter yielded very consistent mid 13s at 95MPH. 373’s and a set of drag radials and I’m sure it would be mid 12s. The only real problem I’ve had it to deal with is the electric fan set up. I'm running LT1 fans from early 2000 Camaros and firebirds, and started with a homemade relays that I built from a schematic I got on this forum. Soon after one of the relays failed, replaced it and then one of the breakers tripped and would not reset. I swapped it out for a painless controller and it failed after about 4K miles. I replaced it with Derale controller and it failed after about three days. Derale confirmed they had a defeat and after about three months they sent me a new one. In the middle of this one of the fan motors failed, easy swap. Last week the Derale controller failed, if I wiggle the wires at the controller it will start to work correctly. That’s it, I’m switching back to stock clutch fan and shroud. Ordered a new Radiator and will switch out soon. The system is cooling just fine but I have lost confidence.

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Your truck looks sooper dooper. I'm so happy to hear it's still goin so strong for you.
What do you use for a security system? I'm thinking of some kind of kill switch set up. Looking for some additional ideas. That color was a GREAT CHOICE!!! You have ALL KINDS of good taste it seems

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Great looking truck. Love the stance and wheels and tires. Mind telling what/if the drop is on it and the size of the wheels and tires? Again, you did a great job, looks amazing! I bet it feels awesome getting in that thing everyday.

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
Kevin, Thanks, It's a blast to drive. I have folks stopping me all the time to chat and look. The drop is 3 1/2 front and 4 rear. Rims are 15 x 8 Torque Thrust Ds, tires are 255-70-15. I've been running this combo since about 15 years. Lee

Your truck is awesome. What paint did you use on your frame? And do you think the dynamat made it quieter in your truck?

Re: The Bomb, 72 C10 Custom Deluxe
100% awesome.
My Dad bought a 69 C-10, LWB when I was a kid (same color), it was used and had high miles on it @ 2 years old, but he got a deal. We didn't have it long . You've brought back a lot of good memories. I have a 67 and 68, hope to have them as nice as yours. Good to see a Q-Jet on that engine. I wouldn't have anything else... We need some more pictures, the hitch, belts, spare, etc, bed cover. Thanks Jeff |
