Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Thank you sir. It's a boy, for inquiring minds that may want to know. We are excited and I'm anxious to get him out in the shop with me!

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Congrats on the baby....you think time was short before....once he is out in the shop with you, any time plans you made can go away. I tend to spend more time explaining what we are going to do to my 2 than we actually work on things.....its all fun though.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Buggy, yes I know production will come to a hault in most cases, but that is how he'll learn. I'm thankful my dad took the time to let me do things vs just setting back and watching him. So it's a small price to pay for a son that will be a productive member of society, and not some kid that plays video games 24/7.
I got my brake lines finished up today and took my radiator to have boiled out and pressure tested. Plus I got another pedal hung.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
First one is of the five speed shifter I made. its quite a piece of work, considering the shift tower on the trans is about ten inches below the floor board and directly under the middle of the seat. The other two are of my york 210 ac compressor off of a ~70's ford half ton. I mounted it vertical and welded a v belt pulley off an old alternator to my surpetine alternator pulley to drive it. It will be used for an on board air compressor, supposedly they are real tough and will take a 5 gal air tank from 0 to 175 psi in about a minute. We'll see, i'm planning on using it for train horns in the future. but it will be terribly handy around the farm for tires and such away from the shop. Might plumb in a set of air springs in the back and run them off of leveling valves like on a semi. I also was thinking air ride seat, but i like the factory look of the bench

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Nice work, it's looking good. I'm still trying to decide if I want to cram my engine under the floor on my COE, or just put it behind the cab. By the way, congrats on the kiddo! They are a lot of fun and yes your time will be limited. At least you have only one, it isn't nearly as bad. Good luck with it!

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Going to skip a few boring details but here is is as I sits now
Past few days I've knocked out a lot of little details. Today I filled the holes in the floor from the old master cylinder, gas tank, etc. Painted the floor to keep it from rusting. Tomorrow it's wiring

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
It is lookin sharp! It would look sweet as a ramp bed for hauling cars. Are you going to repaint it or clear the patina? I'd personally paint it but patina is cool to. Have you turned up the pump on that 12 valve? I can tell you from experience that p pump has a lot of untapped potential in it that won't cost you a dime. A few mods to that 12 valve with a good clutch behind it will give you more power, better throttle response, and far more torque to help get a heavy load moving. Look forward to the progress.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Yep I'm a diesel tech by trade and have done to this pump what I do to all my personal 12 valves. 4k gsk, no plate, afc mods and tune. Couldn't go quite as radical on this one due to the fact it's non intercooled and I still will use it to tow. Might end up backing the pre fuel delivery screw in the back of the afc back out some, I cranked it in for some cool off idle smoke shots

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Took it for a drive yesterday. Got it in third gear and went to stand on it and the truck shut off like you hit the key. Turns out the injection pump timing slipped and killed the motor. Got the pump back in time and took off in it again today and it is pretty sweet.
Here's the latest toy I've bought for it. Leslie supertyfon rs5t's. They are ridiculously loud and obnoxious. Actually gave me a sinus head ache the first time (and last) I blew them without muffs on.

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
here I've skipped a few looks like. I got my bed mounted up bolted down. I've roughed in my front fenders and stuck one up on the truck to see what it was going to look like
I got around and hooked up my York compressor and plumbed in my system. My pressure switch in 180 off and 150 on. I have two 7 gal tanks plumbed in after a oil separator and check valve. From the tanks it goes into a regulator then to a hand ball valve inside the drivers step. Then to the Leslie train horns. I also have a quick connector plumbed in off my tanks for portable air for whatever reason I may need. Today I got a tool box mounted up that I took in on trade a couple years ago

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
you can tell in that last pic that I've started laying the floor in the bed. I have a little still left to do on that but I've replaced the 4x4's under the bed and then had some white oak rough sawn to put down on the bed.

It's been a while since I visited your thread.
Your build seems to be coming along great, looks like it's almost ready for paint

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Found the bed while kicking around in our junk pile. Dad said it was on an old farm truck they used to use on our poultry farm

Re: '56 GMC LCF Cummins Diesel
Black diesel Greta build. What make and year where the fenders you grafted in? I know it will vary by truck but how did you decide the width that would work without ruining fenders in the process? Like the look and will steal the idea somewhere in the future.
Thanks |

He hasn't been on here in a year or so and I'm pretty sure he sold this truck last year too.
