Re: Taking the leap to build
Thanks for the compliment VDog. I have not been able to find new original GM hinges. Both hinges on my truck are shot. The rear of the hood will not close, I have to push it down and the hood will not center between the fenders. When I took the hood off both hinges are twisted and the rivet holes are egged. I can get both hinges rebuilt for around $150 + shipping.

Re: Taking the leap to build
I was able to get a little bit of work done on my truck this weekend but not as much as I wanted to get done. I got the hood stripped inside and out and got it all sealed. I have a little bit of body work to do but nothing major, a few dings to hammer out then prime it up and it will be ready for paint.

Re: Taking the leap to build
Well I started stripping down the cab this weekend. I got the seat out and laid in the floor of the cab and looked under the dash and man was I disappointed!! The inner cowl behind the dash was trashed and the PO had covered the rust up with fiberglass, and did not do a very good job at that. The more I looked at and the closer I got to everything is was obvious that the PO loved the use of fiberglass and did not like cutting out rusted metal. Over half the floor was fiberglassed, the kick panels and the rocker panels were all govers with fiberglass. After looking at all the damage and the attempted repair with fiberglass I figure I should just look for another cab. I was so disappointed I didnt even take pictures. I will take some pictures later this week and see who else thinks my cab is the star of a horror show.

Re: Taking the leap to build
I just realized I should have put this in the builds section. Maybe one of the Mods can move it over.

Re: Taking the leap to build
After looking all over for another cab in good condition I actually found one sitting at a used car lot around the corner from my house. How lucky is that now I just have to get it picked up and start working on it. Will post pics when I get a chance.

Re: Taking the leap to build
I don't know if they made fewer of them or sold more of them but genuine GM LH hinges for our trucks are very hard to find.

Re: Taking the leap to build
Look what I got!!!! And on the cheap!!! It has a little rust on the passenger side just inside the pinch weld and the drivers side rocker needs to be replaced. Other than that it is excellent

Re: Taking the leap to build
Great build you have going! I have just started on a short bed myself. I had a question though. What kind of sealer are you using after you strip the paint?

Re: Taking the leap to build
Jeremy69 there are several different sealers you can use. AIC is not the most expensive out there nor is it the cheapest. I have used it on several projects in the past and have had great results with it. Good luck on your project
