Re: What song would go with your truck?
Right now, Wasted days and Wasted nights fits both of my trucks pretty well.
I'm putting a 500 Cad in the 71 for more towing power and today the parts guy who is usually pretty sharp got me the wrong timing gear set.

Re: What song would go with your truck?
No one in their right minds could have a issue with SRV. He is a guitar god but I thought this was about 50's music. In that case I have to pull out Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Zepplin, Steppin Wolf (I get amp when I here Magic Carpet Ride). I love 60's and early 70's rock.

SRV, yes, yes yes. Actually I like alot of different types of music, from Hank & Cash, to Deano & Frank, all the way across to Tool..... yes Tool. (They are like a Modern day Pink Floyd, IMO) Along time ago I closed my eyes and opened my mind.

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Brought back a memory you did! I had an 8 track player under the seat in my 66 Plymouth Valiant ('71-73), I owned 2- 8 track cassettes, one was the Beach Boys, and the other CCR~ that's all I had! I'd pick up three other friends, head 11 miles to high school jamming to em!

Re: What song would go with your truck?
We 57 owners have a good selection to choose from. When I got my truck "raunchy" might have been appropriate but now when I think about how much $$$ I've spent I think "Too Much" would fit. If my wife ever finds out how much I've got in it my song might be "Great Balls of Fire".

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Being tied to 1959 makes it tough. my 1st pick would be SRV covering jimi's "little wing", since thats a no-go i would have to go with john coltrane's "big steps". Released in jan 60' but recorded in may of 59. A little bourbon, a nice perdomo cigar with some tunes on pandora playing in the garage. may never get anything done but im enjoying the ride.

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Richard Strauss, "Death and Transfiguration"
Although composed in 1889, I'm going to stretch the rules by citing an important recording of the piece in 1959 conducted by Eugene Ormandy. (Couldn't find the Ormandy, here is a substitute) |

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Guess I'm not in my right mind...
Props on the Louis Jordan, T-Bone, and Ray Charles; but SRV? I'd rather listen to the sound of a root canal. It's just waaay to stiff. |

On the real. I only like SRV when he plays blues and blues covers. SRV was not stiff at all when he played the blues. I did not like him in the beginning I thought he was a Hendrix rip off but when I heard him play blues I had to give him his props. Its the same with Eric Clapton I only like Clapton when he plays the blues. All of Clapton's stuff outside of Cream and the Yardbirds I don't feel at all. My favorite guitarist out of them all (non jazz that is) is the late Eddie Hazel he was a monster but only funk fans remember him. IMO Eddie Hazel was all that and than some. But we are talking 50's Funkadelic featuring Eddie Hazel |

Richie Vallens is okay, I really like Buddy Holly he was great. Big Momma Thornton the original singer of Hound Dog was a much better version. Actually it was incredible it just grooved way more. Check out the blues legends in this clip. I see John Lee Hooker dancing and Buddy Guy is on guitar. Last edited by Kabwe; 07-11-2013 at 12:19 PM. |

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Back to the 50's
These are some of my favorite 50's do wop jams The Dells The world lost one of the greatest soul singers to ever sing on May 29, 2013 the late great Marvin Junior aka The Iron Voice. At the height of the soul music in 1969 The Dells cover their own hit of Oh What a Night again in the modern soul style and Marvin Junior really let lose and show why he was the man with the iron voice. It was a bigger hit than the original. The man had serious pipes over 50 years of music and Dells were inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame. RIP Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs The Chords The Dell Vikings The Flamingos The Cleftones Last edited by Kabwe; 07-11-2013 at 08:54 PM. |

Re: What song would go with your truck?
Love all the great music that's been posted! Bam... 900 albums? Wow! You must have days where you just get lost listening to them.
I don't know if there's any particular song that fits my truck. But there is plenty of good music from that vintage. I always crack a smile when I hear Hot Rod Lincoln and that's just the kind of story that fits my early days. Bill Kirchen's version is too new for my truck but Charley Ryan's original recording came out in '55 and my first truck was a '55 pickup. I love to toy with newer vehicles when I'm in the '57, especially when the drivers seem to have the impression that old equals slow. My truck's not fast but it's quick enough to have some fun and I might even pull a stunt like "the one in "Beep Beep" if I thought I could get away with it. Years ago when I had my '55 the only way I knew how to use a throttle was digitally. It was either all on or all off, no in-between. I probably wouldn't have gotten into so much trouble if I'd just listened Nervous Norvus. I used to take the '55 to party at a place we called Blueberry Hill so I suppose a little Fats Domino might be appropriate: And finally, when I was restoring the '57 I spent way too much time working until the wee hours of the morning then coming home barely able to keep my eyes open. My wife and I were still dating then, and she decided the only explanation as to why I was more interested in sleeping than going out or spending time with her was because I had another girlfriend. When she confronted me, it took many, many hours to begin to change her mind. An thanks to an ironically timed joke by a coworker the next day I almost lost everything I'd saved. To this day I refer to the truck as "My other girlfriend." And I guess my other girlfriend did get everything she wanted back then. Last edited by 1project2many; 07-11-2013 at 11:17 PM. |
