Re: looked under the floor mat today, lookie!!
i didn't realize how old the thread was when i first saw it. that truck is beautiful, talk about a survivor. a collector buddy of mine has one thats close--- 72 CST, K5 blazer with less than 6K miles. he was a doctor here in the central valley and he kept it in a garage at his place in the sierra nevada mountains in case it was snowing when he took the family up there in the winter. Joe, my friend, you have way too many nice trucks for one person,

Re: looked under the floor mat today, lookie!!
Hey Joe, I have a question, Are these cab mount bolts welded? Did they change that at some point? I was thinking the front bolts were welded in. I never get tired of seeing pics of this truck. The nicest survivor out there. |

Re: looked under the floor mat today, lookie!!
I don't believe these are welded in. I have seen them both ways. It must have been a variance from plant to plant?

Easy to see why they were tack welded: it would have taken another man, with a breaker bar in the cab, and several extra minutes. That adds up. |

Re: looked under the floor mat today, lookie!!
I bet if you pulled the carpet from a brand new truck now there wouldn't be as nice a paint job. They barely even cover the primer theses days.

Re: looked under the floor mat today, lookie!!
This is could be an important discovery in the cab painting process. I was under the assumption cabs were primed in red oxide (brown), while hoods, fenders, beds and tailgates were primed in black. Could it be the floor boards got one extra coat of a special gray zinc primer before final finishing coat ?

In Flint the cab and box (including tailgates) were painted on the same paint shop carrier (so you will find the primer color of those items to be all the same); the hood and fenders were painted together on their own carrier, but at the opposite end of the plant from the cab/box. http://www.73-87.com/7387info/Assembly%20Line.htm K
