Re: HRSaR
This week I took it to work and installed the stereo and the under dash dual speaker kit they sell.
Personally I think they turned out pretty awesome, and it is super nice to have tunes in the truck !! It was a fairly simple install, though I jumped off the fuse box for the ignition power line to the stereo, and spliced into the cigarette lighter power line for the constant power to the stereo. Well the bad thing with that is it was causing the engine to continue to run after turning the key off. Once I unplugged the IGN power to the stereo, the engine quit. So now the stereo gets constant power and I just have to turn it off when I park the truck (this is how I have all my stereos because I often like to listen to them without putting power to half the vehicle) Installed : As I was cleaning the cab, I noticed this note written into the sun visor: In case you cannot read it, just under the ancient piece of masking tape, it says "New Engine 64,542" I love finding stuff like that !! Since we drove the tow truck to the car show, the presentation gets to go in this thread instead of my usual 66 build thread. I hope you enjoy !!

Re: HRSaR
I am having a hard time looking at the truck. My dad had a 65 one ton that was red that reminds me so much of that truck I get misty. (technically it started out sea foam green with a white roof and wheels)
It was the first thing I ever drove and the last vehicle I rode in with my dad. Unfortunately, it got sold and I couldn't lay claim to it. I might have found a 66 one ton but funds won't allow me to buy it...YET! If I do get it, it will be red with black wheels just like Pop's. Steven

Re: HRSaR
I am hoping someone here has experience with these rear ends.
The guy who owns my fave junkyard up here told me it was a Chevy Corporate rear, and the RTV someone used as a gasket is leaking (I prefer a real gasket to the jelly stuff when possible) so I found this at Summit for a few bucks, but it is for a 8.5" application, and I am uncertain how to determine that measurement. To me the bolt pattern looks right, but I hate to waste time and $$ ordering the wrong thing, I have already done too much of that. The rear end: The gasket part number RDS550281 from FelPro: Any insight would be appreciated, as always guys !!

I dont have to take the ferry down, we are choosing to. I have done enough cross country drives in my life to not get too excited about doing another one.....ever. You can drive down through the Yukon to BC and into either Washington state, or Montana from here. I also dont want to log that many miles on this old boy. As it is we will be doing about 1500 miles with taking the ferry which will cut out 2,000 miles of driving, wear and tear on both the vehicle and our patience. Glad you like the truck, I am planning on showing it again this weekend at a larger, judged, car show ! More to follow !!!

Re: HRSaR
Sadly though, and not to get too deep in the details, Tow Mater was a 55-59 era truck.
Some success with 56-57 Chevy in making him for reals....

Re: HRSaR
Just saw this and congrats that thing has one serious grill guard on it, I see inside the door pillar area that it was infamous green. Chevy must have really like that green...
Heck that's what I'm going back to.

Re: HRSaR
Well here we go, been full tilt since getting back from a quick jaunt out to up-state New York where I ensured my son walked across that High School graduation stage.
Anyways, some of the additioins to this truck in preparation: Here we have moved this tackle box to the rear and freed up the space next to the cab and fuel fill. Also replaced the old and ratty rubber skids on the saddle. Added this 21gas aux fuel cell. With the filler neck and the fuel nozzel it takes 17gal. I may top it off one day and see how we like that, but as is, 17 is better than just the stock in cab alone. For safety sake, the fish eye mirrors: Modern, but necessary update (though easily removed and/or hidden) but a controller for the trailer brakes: Also took it to a local industrial Welding Shop and had the tow hitch professionally welded in. A much more secure feeling that what I was getting with my welding skills LOL !!! I am thiking of shooting this area the same semi gloss white I used on the bumper up front.... But wait, there really is more !!

Re: HRSaR
Replacing the oil pressure guage, enlisted the help of my wife. This is her disconnecting the oil line, tach, and choke cable:
Since Day One I have wanted to cut the monster bumper down. I tried to love it the way it was, but no.... It was too heavy and constricted the air flow to the radiator which of course caused the engine to constantly run hotter than I was comforable with given the pending road trip... So off it came: Here I have cut off everything higher than 11" and cut in the horns that are indicative of how tall this bumper was. I recycled the original rubber by cutting it down and flipping inside out. Cut in the recessed license plate well, added the Ford towing shackles, Spray In bedliner and white semi gloss paint and ready to go back on.: Here is the new look of it: This one I think I am going to make my new wall paper on the computer for a while:

Re: HRSaR
You could buy gasket material. Take your rearend pan and cut one out with a razorblade.

Thanks buddy!! Man your exhaust has get me jonesin to do mine, sadly it just isnt an option at this time. DUDE your door turned out awesome !! Kudos man Quote:
Thank you, it was a leap of faith to cut it like that, but I like it 100% better than the old one. Quote:
********************************************************************************************* Ok the stereo speaker set they sell to replace the under dash mono speaker is great and all, but man it needed help !! I dug out a pair of old SONY Xplode 6x9 and fabbed up a bracket for them. It was no muss-no fuss type of fab, I just cut it out and tabbed it so the anchoring screws also provide the structural support. Close up of the complete p-side done: And with the seat back in: A must have for this trip was the addition of the p-side sun visor. You may ask why this is a must have....oddly enough, up in this latitude during the summers the sun rise and sun sets can take a few hours, and that is a lot of miles with the sun in your eyes sometimes. Just one of those weird things about life up here. And just an extra glam shot that I liked:
